2011-2013 M56 / M37 / Q70 Paddle Shifter Upgrade

Before you proceed:

Some M’s came with the wiring installed for the paddle shifters and some did not; some came with the mounting bracket for the paddle shifters and some did not. There is no way to tell by your model, package, or VIN number, you must visually inspect the steering column.

This Instructional has been written up for M’s with the wiring bracket and without the factory mounting bracket. I do not have wiring instructions for M’s without the paddle shifter wiring. From what I understand it is similar to instructions found here: http://www.infinitiscene.com/forum/thre ... 271-s-Kit)

Do you have the paddle shifter wiring harness? It will be taped and tucked up on each side.

What you need to Purchase:

Mounting Bracket

The mounting bracket I ordered was purchased from a vendor I found on the Infiniti scene forum.
He is also a member of this forum: rex9271 (Please contact him to purchase the mounting bracket kit)

The mounting bracket without the wires cost me $130.00 which included shipping. There is no part number for this bracket and I have not been able to find the factory bracket.

Installation Instructions:

1. Position the steering wheel so that it is fully extended and centered on the y axis.

2. Remove the screw at the bottom of the steering column trim. Save the screw.
Image

3. Turn the car on and turn the wheel to one side and then the other so you can access the screws that hold the top and bottom trim panels together.

4. Remove the screw trim cover on one side to gain access to the screw. Save the cover.
Image

5. Remove the screw from the trim cover. Save the screw.
Image

6. Repeat these steps for the other side.
Image
Image

7. Pry the top steering column cover up from each side and remove it.
Image

8. Pry the bottom steering column cover down and pull away from steering wheel.
Image

9. Unplug the steering wheel position control wiring harness.
Image

10. Pinch the tabs at either side of the position module and push it through the trim.
Image

11. Unplug this wiring Harness under the steering column.

12. This is where the 10mm bolt will be installed to hold the mounting bracket in place.
Image

13. Install the mounting bracket as shown with the 10mm bolt that came with the bracket kit.
Image
Image

14. Plug the wiring harness back in.

Image

17. Install the position module into the new sports trim left side panel.
Image

18. Install the lower trim under the steering column. Leave the screw loose to make it easier to install the remaining trim panels. (Make sure you snake the position module wiring harness through the trim)
Image

19. Install remaining two screws from the mounting bracket kit into the hole and into the bottom of each paddle shifter on each side of the trim.
Image

20. Manipulate the side trim panel into place and then snap into place making sure all edges have snapped in place flush with the other trim. Do this to each side paned.
Image

21. Install the new upper trim for the steering column. Snap everything into place making sure the tabs in the front line up so you can reinstall the screws. Do not reinstall screws until top cover is in place and all trim edges are flush. Reinstall the screws and screw covers. Don't forget to tighten the screw holding the lower column trim panel.

Sir, amazing write up. I have added it to our FAQ. I did change the thread title a bit for google search purposes. Sorry heh.

How does it feel? :D

It feels and looks great!

I like the manual shifter a lot but the paddle shifters allow me to keep both hands on/near the steering wheel; not to mention it gives the interior a sportier look.

The new title is better and the model numbers are in alphanumerical order which appeals to the OCD in me.

Now if my transmission could only learn how to shift itself better, facepalm Nissan, epic Picard Facepalm!

Yeah my transmission has been ticking me off lately too. Sluggish response, especially when making quick turns from a stop...such as pulling out into traffic from a parking lot. If I mash the gas, I want it to go. Feels like the car is purposely cutting power for some reason.

That seems to be this cars one flaw, maybe correctable with a good Osiris tune.

I think it has something to do with how the ECU learns because I did the ECU reset procedure today and the car is driving much better; smooth snappy throttle, no sluggish pulls... (yet), clean idle, and shifting has improved noticeably. I will see how it fairs over the next few days.

A agree with adeedpb. TollboothWilly did me a solid and reset the ECU for me. I immediately did a few runs 0-100mph and some quick starts at the lights. I haven't had an issue with sluggishness since then at all. :woot:

Great write-up by the way. Thank you.

Great write up! Seems much easier to upgrade the paddles without having to remove the steering wheel like you have to do on the G37

Thanks for posting this up! Seems like an easy DIY. The cost is a bit prohibitive though so I don't think I'll be doing it any time soon. I wonder if you could source the paddle shifters and trim from a junk yard to help offset the cost.

I'm thinking about doing this mod to my 2012 M37x. I will need to find out if I have the wires and mounting bracket. If I have both all I should need is this kit, correct?

If I have the wiring harnesses but lack the mounting points, does that member at IS still offer the mounting hardware for sale? Seems the links to IS are dead.

Ever since I had the car tuned with the Uprev software, I no longer encounter that issue.

I'm UpRev tuned and it comes back after a while. When I reflash the tune, something gets cleared...or at least I feel like it is.

That just blows my mind that some cars are wired and have mounting points and some cars aren't.... just shake my head at Nissan engineering.

This write up is awesome. Thank you. I have a 2016 Q70L AWD and pulled my steering column covers off tonight and low and behold it is prewired! I am going to be ordering these parts for this upgrade. Coming from a 4G Acura TL I love the paddle shifters.

Can anyone tell me how to reach Rex9271 to order the mounting bracket? I can't seem to figure out how to send him a message.

Thanks

I think there's a post count cutoff before you can use PMs. Once you hit that count, you can PM other members and will be able to PM Rex9271. He responded to me within 24 hours and I am awaiting instructions to make payment. Once that's confirmed, I'll be ordering the other parts and hoping to enjoy this mod soon.

Everything is put together. It works and looks great. Is it worth $600 all said and done? Probably not but I had no other plans for the bonus check lol.

I received my stuff and installed it to. They look amazing! I still can't believe how fast the bracket came from Taiwan. I ordered last Thursday and Monday it said arrived at JFK NY. Tuesday it was delivered. My USPS mail from the next state takes longer than that. Haha

Also the only part I had trouble with was putting on the final top plastic column piece. The tabs kept bending and not going together in the rear but eventually I got it.
