i got what im guessing an obx short shifter from my parts car for my 5spd swap. while installing it i noticed the top peice coming off slightly. i pulled it off to find this lil shaft. so i put my acp shift knob on it and the throws are short as hell. u cant really use the shift trim cuz ull hit ur hand on it. only problem i have so far is the shift knobs keeps gettin loose cuz of the vibrationt he screws keep backing out. im goin to use some locktite or use some kindof super glue to fix it

That reminds me of the shifter in a miata. I can see why it would hit.

in the wrc cars, the throws are the same as stock, but the actual shifter is placed up nex to the steering wheel. They could be called a "long" shifter of sorts.

soo, what's the top piece of the OBX/pilot motorsports "short shifter" used for anyways?

from online pics, it seems to be <weighted> to help u throw it into gear???

hmm, suggest loctite to keep the screws from backin' out...

Try using this glue called thread lock. I used It on my stock shifter because I couldn't get it tight enough. Now It's on really good, and If I want to take It off, I just have to use a little force and the thread lock seal breaks easily.

wow, does it work well or is it harder to get in it gear? I'd be scared that you'd loose too much leverage.

Thats pretty funny looking, but hey if it works...who caresand maybe you could work out some custom fiberglass or something like that to go round it so it doesn't look bad. or work out a nice boot...but i dunno how that would work.

that sucks. and the loctite helped but didnt solve the problem. theres jsut so much vibration from the nismo mounts and lightweight parts i guess. ill try out some jb weld tomorrow probably

Haha...ive had the same ish in my car for 2 yrs now. The notorious OBX *2-piece* shifter. I was running philly one nite and the top piece came off power shifting from 1st to 2nd. Stuck an Ichibahn shift-knob on mine.

I would think the heavy it is, the easy it is to shift..

I will NEVER watn a short shifter in my car. I can shift plenty fast enough with my stock shifter and I definitely don't wanan have to deal with worn out synchros later on down the road.

This is not true. I have the shifter and knob in my car. Never pops out of gear. I would suggest using a screw on knob rather than a universal due to rattling noise being made louder by the knob.

Why are short shifters so expensive? The short shifter for my MR2 was only $30. John-O shifter, baby all the way.

The B&m replaces the whole top-plate with a new mechanism. Too bad it is hidden under the car.....

dude, why don't you re-tread the super short shifter end, so you can screw in a shift knob, and add locktite to secure it?

i put my bushings in the wrong order, i'm gonna try and install it 2mora again, should work.

i used locktite on the holding bracket, just to ensure the bracket doesn't fall off onto the ground
