hello all.

although i have been checking out this forum for some time now, this is my first actual post here. i have recently purchased a 2002 Q45, champagne with the black leather, 63k mi, and everything stock. i previously owned a 98 Q45 and that had about 125k on it. i have become emotionally and physically attached to my Q and love the fact that there are only about 3 of them in my area, im sure you all know what i am talking about.

anyways, i do have one question for you all. i have been searching through the forum for an answer regarding the timing chain. from what ive read and heard, the timing chain does not need to be replaced? i remember changing it on my 98 so im a bit confused. any clarification on this is greatly appreciated.

technically no nissan V8 requires timing chain maintenance, its only the timing chain GUIDES on the 90-93 VH45 that need attention!

Was wondering the same. G50s didn't need the chain changed, nor did Y33s and as far as I know, neither does the F50. If you're gonna drive them past 300K miles, maybe ... eventually.

And welcome to NICO!

damn, i guess i got played. i had just gotten the car and it was at 100k. i didnt know much about infinitis/nissans so i thought the best thing would be to change the timing chain. mechanic didnt mention anything to me stating that the replacement was unnecessary. thanks for your help.

I have a 98 Q45, 104,000 miles. My mechanic keeps telling me to change the timing belt. He says it costs $800-900. Is it really necessary?

it might be necessary if the VH41DE had a timing belt.... If your "mechanic" is telling you need to replace a timing belt or timing chain, RUN AWAY, not walk, because if he cannot grasp the timing setup on this motor what makes you think he can grasp anything else on the motor? Certainly not the kind of fellow i want touching my motor.
