ok... fisrt off. i guess i should say hi... im new.... to the forum and nissans. im usually a domestic kinda guy, but i snapped up a working truck (my red warrior, a 2.4 ka reg cab short box manual wonder.) and thought it would be a nice change to hop on board with the nissan train.

boy was i wrong

ok, it all started one day when i was experiancing a problem mantaining voltage. long story short... swapped in a new battery, alternator, distributor cap, spark plugs and wires, chased the circutry for a drain over .5 on the multimeter. FOUND the short/drain in the system. to temp fix the problem, i just poped out the fuse to the circut that had the leak in it. since it was my cab light, radio, and clock i wasnt too concerned... just so long as it ran.

in the process of fixing my truck, i found that i was firing on only 3 cylinders, now that ive a new distributer cap and wires, my engine should in fact be running 25% warmer.... thus the problem.

my heat gauge goes astronomically high, like to the point its where my fuel gauge read constantly. if i sit at a light for a couple minutes or pull over and let the engine run, it SLOWLY comes down, but still sits in a temp range im not comfortable with.

anybody got any ideas. the temp was fine before the electrical problem and it just seems to be one more problem after another.

ALSO.. this morning i let it warm up for a half an hour ish and drove accross town, but my gauge stayed at a reasonable and even desierable level. on the way home though, same route, just reversed, it got up to the uncomfortable heat level.

im leaning towards a stuck thermostat

.... and it almost appears that there isnt a thermostat ANYWHERE

the top rad hose just kinda GOES into the manifold at the block...

any ideas would be GREAT

The thermostat housing is located behind the power steering pump, and is held on with 3 (three) 10mm bolts. Be careful not to strip the aluminum threads when you retorque them.

well, after all that, and a water pump and plenty of swears and a new belt and all the bolts that hold the alternator in and tensioned.... she rides again.
