Okay, my system is a alpine mp3 player (not sure what wattage or anything, but i can find out) 4 memphis 6.5's rated at 100 watts (per pair, i think) a sony amp (300 watts at 1 ohm...or maybe 2 ohms, not sure), and a ppi 12 inch competition piston sub. (way overkill on the sub, considering the amp) the sub's rated at 300 watts at 8 ohms (yes, i know it's waaaaaaay underpowered by that amp, i'm working on that) how should i go about tuning the system? Right now i've got the main bass turned down to -4 on the HU, with subwoofer power maxed out at +15, the amp is set to pretty high power, how should i tune the amp and head unit? And as a sidenote, any suggestions for a more appropriate amp? I've found a 500 watt memphis amp that is rated at either 4 or 2 ohms, i was thinking about that, or if my friend fixes it, he's got a 250 x 2 at 4 ohm jl amp, i believe i can bridge it and get about the appropriate power for the sub...thanksast

You might see if this helps.

I'm somewhat tone deaf, so I simply take a CD/song I really like and sit in the car (motor running) and try adjusting the front rear bias as well as the bass & treb. If it seems like you have to have one of them near the limit of gain or defeat, you may try moving some of that adjustment to the amp controls/gains.
