I have a new 15 Q70 for 4 weeks and I cannot believe how convoluted and deficient the navigation system is.
I checked with Infiniti to be sure I have the latest software and I do.
I find my 4 inch portable Magellan so much easier to operate and carries a substantially more information that
is not available with the Infiniti system.
An example is that there is no way to enter in a zip code to search for an address. By not having that option, I end up with
getting Main street in every city of all of the regional areas that the system will search for. In my area, it includes, Mass, NY, CT, RI, NJ and PA.
Just entering in an address I find a problem. It's as if I should be entering in the address like I am addressing an envelope; ie, number, street and then city. I think the state, then city should be first (or zip code).
I tried to locate a street the other day that has been in existence for over 30 years. It could not find it nor could it find the city the street was located in.
I'm so fed up with it that I am going to rely on my portable Magellan going forward.
Who makes their system? Please don't tell me Garmin.
Anyone have experience with it?
thanks

My m37 frustrated me on so many occasions I have stopped using the nav all together. The limitation of the system while driving are ridiculous. The voice commends capabilities are crap. I can never seem to be able to get the house address I need. Often when asked for the house number the system would say something like. 'provide house number between 990 to 2100' and my house number is like 2300, or 850. I can never figure out what the damn problem is. Why can't I just put in any damn house number I want?
Anyway, I find the nav in my car mostly useless.

I might be able to help answer some of the questions. I myself have no issues with the Navi. It works the same as my 07 did, and that's fine. The only thing I miss in the 2011 that my 07 had was the ability to control things like temperature by voice. The voice system in the Y51 just seems to have regressed as far as what you can do with it.

But anyway...

I do tech support, currently (might be changing soon), for a software company that writes software that schools use to route their buses. In our software, I can add streets/delete streets, etc. as needed to fit a clients needs (often times they'll have a new development they need added so the bus can pick some kids up and I'll manually draw it in for them. The way our software gets the maps is from external sources such as Google, Bing, etc.

Problem is, our software will only have what we are provided (or what Google was provided) by local GIS offices, state agency's, etc. That's why you guys are missing streets or address ranges. For some reason, that data is not available to the map maker or nav disc provider when they compile their database. It's not a software issue. If you were to take your Nav DVD and put it in your computer and try to find your house number, it still wouldn't work.

This happens more frequently in areas that are less populated (don't change as much). Places like NYC see more updates than middle-of-no-where-Idaho. The map maker/DVD creator is given incomplete data by your local authorities.

Hope that helps explain the issue with not being able to find roads. As for roads that once were there and now aren't, that I'm not sure about. That is just weird.

I think many of the issues would be solved if an option of putting in a zip code like Magellan and other GPS's do. Otherwise, as I have said before, it looks up a street in an entire region.

I don't find that to be a problem. It's not like your guessing which Main Street you're selecting. Just pick the one with your city. I usually get maybe 20 results, and just find the one I need. It's not THAT big a deal.

I agree it is far from the best I have ever used. However, I find the voice control function to be dead on and never misses a beat using my voice to find exactly what I am looking for. This is actually the first NAV that has worked this well using my voice as data entry mechanism. If you haven't used the learn function to train it to your specific voice, you should attempt that and you may be much happier with your NAV.

It's not great, if you compare it to my son's Q50 or my wife's new XC90 it is a joke. If I didn't love the way this car looked and drove I would have considered another brand. The other factor was I traded in my G37S and they gave me a great deal on the Q70S. I think it's the only negative about this car, just understand I use mine daily as my Q70S is my business car that I put about 25-30k miles on in a year and travel California, Nevada, Oregon. My dealer tells me the 2017 will be redesigned completely.

agree, yesterday I got pages of the street I was looking for, for all towns and cities in the whole damn region except the town I was in. At the least it should list them by distance. I find the nav useless - my only big complaint with the car.
