Ok so there is this transmission shop by my house that has had this 92 300zx sitting there for the past 9 months. It was a customers car but he doesn't know what he wants to do with it. The owner of the shop is going to serve the owner with papers to get the title and sell it. I don't have much money to buy it since I put all my money in my 240 and my maxima. To describe the car, the front bumper is hanging on the bottom it has a couple of dings the paint is faded and since it's at the transmission shop I'm gonna have to guess that the trans is burnt on it. But it's one of those cars that has potential the kind that when you look at it your eyes light up and you dream about what it could be. My question is how can I get this transmission shop to donate it to my shop I would use this car for racing. What kind of words can I use or what can I offer him and how should I present this to him. Thank you guys in advance for any help anyone can provide. I hope I was clear enough in asking the question.

I'd suggest offering to let the shop put some decals on it, since it's not really a "donation". You might could also agree to a value, that the shop would be entitled to when/if you sold it. My guess is if they haven't put any labor/parts into it they may be open to the opprotunity to get some positive "enthusiast" buzz. Too many shops live off of "must" repairs, versus "elective surgery". Just a coupe of ideas. Good Luck

yeah i would tell them your plans for the car and tell them that you'll put their stickers on your car kind of like a sponsor, it sounds like a plan anyways...good luck

No offence but you have ZERO chance of getting this car for free.

One of 2 two things is probably happening here.

1. The customer brought the car in and had the shop look at it. The customer never decided to have the shop fix the car BUT he also never signed any paperwork authorizing a storage fee either so the shop has no chance of getting the title. The most they could dream of doing is putting a mechanics lein on the car.

2. The customer had the shop repair the car but never claimed it. In this case the shop MIGHT get the title to the car but you will never get it because there is probably a technician that works there that would get it WAY before you do.

It is very difficult to get the title to a car through the means you suggest. If the shop started now they MIGHT get a title to the car in a year or so. Even so, it's a major hassle for them.
