And is everyone seriously worried about crashing? Race and Drift of course your putting your life on the line, who cares if 240sx have the worst crash rating, are you looking for safety or speed? If your so worried about crashing I suggest you sell your 240's and go buy a Honda oddessy, I heard they are 5 stars safety rating. Why don't you just stay in your house cause you might get sunburt too

Settle down, Junior.

Don't go acting like you know what the hell you're talking about now all of a sudden, and DO NOT start lipping off like you're some "elite drifter".

Many of us actually have some track time under our belts, and have seen what happens when parts break. You don't.

So, cool it.

BTW, grinding off the outside rust only exposes fresh metal and makes it spread faster.

You came on here asking for answers. You got them. It's not up to you to criticize the replies you receive.

I never said I was a elite drifter I have seen frames twist I have seen parts break Ive been around 240s all my life I never said I would leave the bare metal unprotected thats automotive suicide A track time doesn't prove you know about a car I could say I have 20 track times who says I don't have a pit crew or I didn't pay someone to do the work for me. grinding the rusted metal off and painting it stops the rust permanently how can you have rust when its not there? I said I'm using the car for commuting and drifting not big time drifting just in a empty parking lot and somehow people got the idea that I'm going to dump 10,000 into it when I posted above "thanks for the help ol rusty is not getting any money put into her" And cars break my car will break one day yours will break one day it will eventually happen when a car gets made brand new it has rust on it its just the time it takes to eat away. Iron has rust the minute it touches air. The car will be drifted it will most likely slam the ground and it will be towed to the junk yard smart comments like wear your seatbelt just makes me think you never raced or drifted cause if your so overworried about a seat belt saving you surly you'd never take a risk drifting or going excessive speeds so why are the smart comments necessary?

So if I install a roll bar in my 240 the rusty it wont have to rely so much on the rusty unibody correct? so could this be a fix? I don't know much about roll bars except they protect you if you roll lol and they make the car more rigid and strong I already have a 91 dual cam clean on the way in a couple weeks but I could make that my daily and this the drift slut

I dont think you can weld metal to rust. The car is not fixable, your pissing up a rope at this point. Wait until you get your new car and part rusty out.

you seem so determined...well...if you have the coin....you can,or i should say..a skilled fab man can...CUT away the rusty bucket of crap at its rusty spots..and replace it with new fab'd sheet metal...this of course only works on the body area's...and it COST ALLOT!....more than that car is worth...as far as a roll cage goes...just so ya know...its about $2000. bucks for a 8 point cage installed with kit..depending on your market area and what shop is avalible...thats allso..more than that car is worth..ither way..unless your a kagizillionair..then its just not worth the money..when you can buy a good shell and save the rest of the cash for ither fix..for some good parts..hope this sets your mind in the rite direction...we all know..you love your car, and we all know..its hard to let go...we love our cars too..but sometimes....its best to let them rest in peace bro....good luck..on finding a new shell.

Yeah man thanks for the support, I've been trying for weeks to find clean shells, I almost had this 91 but the guy responded once asking when I was free and he never responded back, after that really hard to find a clean shell especially a SE or XE model with sunroof and I don't get when people ask 1500 for there clean shell when thats above kbb on a running clean shell well this is what I did so far on my 240, I wonder if its gonna solve the problem or not? I grinded down everything to smooth little rust spots, my uncle who is a welder told me to use this epoxy stuff that you put on the rust spot and it bonds with it and turns it into a harmless element so I did that all the way around, then I painted the rest of the bare metal with rustoleum primer and finally some restoleum high gloss grey, my uncle said that It should last a long time he said he'd dig into the frame work and cut and weld all my frame rust and undercoat the car now if all goes smoothly I was planning on bondoing on a wide body on the rear to cover up the ugly rust scars getting rid of the front 2 fenders and ording some aftermarket new ones and side skirts to cover up the rest of the ugly scars and doing a shot of paint at a autobody, and I asked my uncle about the rust inside were you cant see he took a hammer and pounded the floors and trunk he said that if the floor or anything starts to get spongy that he would rip up the carpet but he said it seems solid for now. so I need some opinions on this I can do all this for about 500$ and a new shell is 1200-1500$ in my area

I've had a change of heart, and I'll leave it at this:

If you waste $500-$1000 getting a good education (cutting / grinding / welding / sanding / painting / assembling), then it's money well-spent.

Go fix Rusty.

Yeah thats a possibility but Id still have to buy 10 grand with the equipment to weld and all that But I got 2 options here and there my last 2 options for the car

A, I let my uncle at the frame I slap a widebody on it and go from there for 500$

B, I part or sell the car I save the money I work a couple months I buy a clean 240 for 2-3k

But the time and money it takes to make option B a success I could have A SR-T or RB-T in

The cancer has already taken control. Don't believe me? Sandblast it, see what happens.

You will fall through the floor, or your wheels will fall off, or your hinges will snap when you open the door to get in/out

If someone has already started replacing parts on this car, and GAVE UP,,,that should tell you something. i think you would have a hard time finding a reputable body man that would touch that car. He/she couldn't afford the liability.

The worst: you die...or you kill someone else. You aren't the only one out there on the road, especially in commuter traffic. Have some respect for the other people on the road with you. They have husbands, wives, and babies waiting for them at home.

You do NOT want to drift a rust bucket, even if it has a full roll cage. The twisting is too much strain on the car. (BTW...it's not wise to try and weld rust).

First off, the you don't weld new sheet metal over rust this way it doesn't take over the new sheet metal this way there is no rust, so It would bend the metal not snap like a rusty sheet metal repair job would do.

secondly, I have gotten a steel wool drill brush and 60 coarse sand paper, I have gone at it on the body, Ive grinded all the rust spots till I hit bare metal and even sanded above that to be 100% sure of the car, then I bondoed will special rust bondo according to my uncle primed and painted in those areas sanded thats why I cant believe you on that.

finally I have taken it to many autobodys including macco they do offer warrenty on the repair and paint up to 2 years! but, the bad thing is that they want 1300$ with the wide body bondoed on, the local bodyshops want 900-1200$ depending on how many hours go into it, so thats a waste, and I'm not sure if they offer warranty. theres many other union out of work welders that said the'll do 50$/hr but, I rather have my uncle do it cause if something messes up he knows it was his work.

I know you guys only want the best and your helping me and I really appreciate the suggestions But I think you would have to see the car in person to really get a feel for the rust, The laid off unions workers wouldn't set on a price till they saw it in person so I think that could be a factor.

again thanks for the response I meen my friend my friend had a real bad 89 no body rust, but the frame was just like looking into a orange crusty desert, and I remember driving that and the handling was just horrible real spongy it was like turning in a boat, every bump you would bounce a little bit like a wave. his ended in a closed parking lot the spring was on some good amount of rust we were drifting for about a good 20 minutes he was going in circles and the spring shot out and the front end and the front end slid on the ground, in the engine bay you could see the spring out and a big dent in the hood but he didn't care he picked up the car for $300 and had his fun with it.

And the frame rails just look new I didn't say they were new I'm just saying there clean enough to be new. The whole top end of the car is just awesome good gel coat no scratches blemishes you can see from my main picture how its pretty clean. the steering is really tight and sensitive responses I have slid in this car a little not major stuff cause I don't want to kill the tires so much. But it was enough were if that frame wanted to snap believe me it would have lol There were parts were I thought the frame was going to twist be cause I was drifting one way and I swung it around and did sort of a chain drift but all the force went on the broken piece I figured if it broke that was the end of that I thought it was just a way to test it out.

OK, no more. Seriously.

You're telling us all this stuff about how you think the car "feels", when you have very little to compare it to. You've been driving for what, a year? And now you're a "drifter"?

I've been being nice, but now it's just getting annoying.

Less talking, more working on the car.

You asked, we told, we're done.

Sorry your late in the game pops

And I didn't know you speak for the majority of the people here on Nico when you say "were done" I didn't know you owned the club? and if you do I'm on the wrong forum. And thank you Iv'e been around 240sx's all my life as I believe I told you before. My parents have owned Nissan's all there life from 240's to 280's to 300's to 350's today so I think they should know if something seems outta place on the cars suspension abilities.

No offense but I checked your website and see no pics of any of the cars you claim to own, or any pics of your "elite drifting" as you call it. Idk how you have the time for all those posts on your site, and this forum and only god knows how many others, and still have time for a job and to keep up on all your cars and do your racing/drifting that your so good at. I really dont understand your bashing but it seems pretty immature to me, I meen really? what was the whole point to posting that above? I came here to find answerers not flamers.

The others are pretty much cosmetic but this photo concerns me.

If the rocker panels are jacked up then I am going to assume the flood boards might be bad and maybe the Uni-rails.

I know there has been some heated discussion so far but hee's what you need to do if you want us to actually help you...

1-Remove the front seats2-Remove the center console3-Remove the Carpet

Take photos of floors

4-Get the car Lifted

Take photos of the undercarriage

If the rust is ONLY what we currently see then it can easily be fixed but as I can tell you from working on Jeeps with major rust problems::: The problem is usually worse than it appears.

People with Lung Cancer cough and are tired a lot but when you actually get inside and look at their lungs... you realize they are dying. Just be prepared that this could be over.

I'm not interested in seeing some YouTube video, that means nothing to me.

My point was, you're 17. You've probably only driven ONE (maybe TWO) cars, so you have nothing to compare it to. Fact.
kaboost90 wrote:Sorry your late in the game pops
Nope. If I was your "Pops", I'd bust you in the lip for being a disrespectful, snot-nosed, unappreciative little assclown.
kaboost90 wrote:....so I think they should know if something seems outta place on the cars suspension abilities.
Yes, THEY should. But THEY aren't drifting your swiss-cheesemobile, YOU are. So why are you telling me about THEM?
kaboost90 wrote: No offense but I checked your website and see no pics of any of the cars you claim to own
Then you must fail at the Internet. They're all over my MySpace page, my FaceBook page, and in most of the articles posted in the Articles link, right above this thread. Then again, I don't have to prove anything to you, Junior.
kaboost90 wrote:or any pics of your "elite drifting" as you call it.

There's a lot of things you don't know.

If it's that important to you, maybe you can read my book once it's published.
kaboost90 wrote:I really dont understand your bashing but it seems pretty immature to me, I meen really? what was the whole point to posting that above? I came here to find answerers not flamers.
You got answers. But you keep arguing.

And if you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't have asked in the first place.

Most everyone who posted has done some sort of rust repair. I've restored a crap-ton of cars that had rust issues, from 1949 to 1972, and I know what I'm talking about.

Honestly, I think you overestimate your knowledge. If I'm wrong, this thread wouldn't exist.

And if you don't like what you're reading, don't read any further - You already know it all, so what do you need our help for?

Lastly, you haven't been "flamed" - If you had, it would hurt.

And if you'll notice, I *was* nice to you, an awful lot... Until you started arguing with everyone.

You're not making any progress by typing and posting pictures. We've ALL seen rusted-out 240sx's. Why don't you get started on fixing it?

I don't make stuff up.

One or two try about 13 sounds right Ive owned 3 trans ams before this 240 currently own a silverado 1500 not to mention the 280's and 300's camaros and other s*** I driven before I had my license. I'm not arguing I'm asking more questions quote were I argued? Whats your book about going on fourms and bashing people god that should be a hit seller right? Geeze I pray you don't have kids I've been very appreciative of the answerers I said thanks numerous times. And assclown? I'm sorry but that just shows your immaturity right there do you really think calling people names over the internet gets to them? You sound like a 12 year old with fake pictures from google that has nothing better to do but to get his jollys off from people on the fourm. Honestly I bet you don't know how a engine even functions. I really think your overestimate your knowledge. I rebuilt and supercharged transam's I fixed them when they were smashed to hell. here I will even give you pics to get your jollys off. you can google all these and not find em cause its my personal computer album.

This one I bought smashed in and did all the repairs my self including a frame pull out

Right after I dropped in a 400 6.6 liter and 350 trans fully rebuilt out of my dads old GTO later supercharged and spun bearing

And my GTA that had rust as bad as you can see on the hood But grinded it down and sent it to a body man you can see my truck in the backround

So realize age is just a number gramps I bet you don't know half the s*** I do you just think "oh hes 17 he don't know I'm old I know" just go send your cube to a performance shop to get it turboed and say oh yeah I turboed it all myself. You remind me of the people at hot import nights who claim there stock Si civic whips 6 speed ls1's If this posting annoys you why do you check back? I find it funny that you keep checking back, I like reading your reactions that make you sound like you haven't touched a car in your life.

Look, Dude. These guyz have been through more then just 3 or four cars.Try 30 or 40. Maybe even more And if you are two slow to realize that you've been arguing with the ceo ( the guy on this website who's probably driven everything, and really can say he's been there and done that)He really only has your best interests in mind, Hell right now you seem like such a jackass i wouldn't care if you died.but all he's been trying to tell you was no mater WHAT you do.that car is un-fixable. so what you add a roll cage, you still have rust. This can happen to a MINT 240 so imagine yours with rust on basically every inch of the body.

Oh see this car 'LOOKS' pretty clean but all of that that bs, It's just paint,Just like someone putting on a wig to hide the fact that they still are bald.

And so what, you don't listen to us, and you drop 20k+ into this 240sx,sure it will look clean and decent. but who's to say you won't total it drifting,or say you want to move on to a better or nicer car, or family car, or a g37 coupe your trade in value of the 240 will at most be 10k, If' you're lucky. So either way whatever you decide to do to it, this car will either kill you, or become a money-pit, get wrecked, and harm you.and if all of that doesn't happen, you still have a really low trade in value for this 240.a$$
