I just bought a 2006 Murano AWD but it does not have the VDC. I'd love to hear how they go in the snow/slush/ice from any of you who've driven one through a Winter or two. I am coming from an AWD Subaru and honestly, it is going to be hard to top for bad weather performance. I've read good things about the Murano in the snow, but it seems most of those people comment on the VDC and since I don't have that, I'm wondering how mine will do.

My 03 is AWD w/o VDC. I had a no problems in the snow here in central PA. I am part of the snow removal team at the airport, so i usually had to drive to work before the roads were touched, i was never late. Leave the AWD in auto unless you are in deeper snow otherwise the drive train will bind if it finds a dry spot. The only issue i ever found was that in a situation were you may be in a tight turn under power i.e. turning out of a parking lot into traffic, if the front slip, it will activate the rear tires and the transition can cause the back end to step out momentarily. but drive easy (like you should in snow) and you'll never feel the AWD kick in and out. The VDC would be needed in a situation were the AWD is activated, and one front and one ear tire was still spinning ( very slick ice, or stuck in an embankment).

I have an 09 and have driven with the VDC OFF just to see the difference and its not a big deal unless your putting your right food down which will as stated transfer power to the rear making it easier for the rear to swing out but just keep an eye on it and you should be fine.
