My 1995 ka24de swap had a broken knock sensor well the plastic as well as the wire. Would this do something like a bad o2 sensor? Will it set the timing way back and run rich? My wiring harness is from a 1992 so it is obd1. Car is running rich different injectors or regulator didn't change it. New fuel filter and o2 as well.

My car ran rough at idle when my knock sensor was disconnected. I believe the cars ECU goes into a safe mode when the knock sensor is not connected and adjusts the cars air fuel ratios and timing.

It will run fine, you might just loose a little power since the ecu may not allow as much timing advance. I know this is true for 300z's.It won't even throw the check engine light. But if you pull codes from the ecu, it will come up.

woah! thats totally wrong... what the knock sensor is supposed to do is retard the timing when it notices a knock in order to get rid of it... it can retard it up to 12 degrees. it will only NOT throw a code if it senses a knock and it does its job of retarding the timing... but if it is bad.. like mine is now, it WILL throw a code... 34 or 35 one of those two... i would recommend replacing that as it is a vital sensor... ALL sensors were put there for a reason

Totally wrong? You just said what i said except put more value in the sensor than you should. IT'S NOT A VITAL SENSOR. If it was, it would cause the engine to go into limp mode or at least throw a check engine light if it was removed.I said it will store a code, i just said that it won't throw the light.and loosing a bit of power is all that it will do.How do you know you might ask? I have a car i drive around with a bad knock sensor and haven't fixed it because the stupid sensor is expensive.

My car does run rough when I first start it up. I have to hold the gas for about 30secs then it will idle fine, if not it will die but runs decent for bad blowby.

Thanks for the help everyone, I will get one eventually. I'm letting the car sit and going to rebuild it since the rings aren't doing well. Hopefully by spring this thing will be 100% reliable. I still love this car to death.

I've been running no knock sensor for over a year lol. It's hard to tell if it makes any difference because my 240 has so many underlying problems. Everyone I've talked to says the only time that sensor changes anything is when it gets a signal that your engine is knocking. Otherwise, no problem.

so all i know is what I've been through with my truck just purchased a 92 88 that I mixed motors in the knock sensor got damaged just like yours and it starts like crap after a few min runs great then if you drive it a while it's like the fuel pump shuts down also I have no oil pressure registering on the gage I know most of it is from that crappy sensor so FYI if yours is damaged I would take the money and buy a new one the plug is cheap and replace both so far it's been my downfall but I didn't do the work on the truck only installed the motor tranns and transfer case so had to redo allot of work thanks and good luck

You will eventually spend more money in gas from the s*** mileage. Ntm who wants to drive that slow of a car?
