I've searched here and google, and looked in the service manual, I can't see exactly where the dipstick is to check the level, see if it smells etc

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS - If there is something wrong, should I take it to a local shop to get them to flush it (as long as I/they have the correct fluid)? I am 500km away from the nearest nissan / infiniti dealership.

Page AT-12 and AT-13 in this section: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/M/2007_M45-M35/at.pdf will show you where to look for the AT fluid level and check out its color.

If the fluid is Nissan J, then any place with the BG flush system (the one that is powered to run the car through the gears, etc.) can do the flush for you!

Those are the same as the 2006 service manual pages...

I'm not a "gearhead" at all, I don't know much about cars. I read those pages and I don't know even where to start looking to find that location, just a general area will help me find it, then I can check and determine if I need to just top it up and wait a month or two when I'll be in the city.

This type of check/flush is part of the 30000 mi service right?

My car is used, can I call Infiniti with the VIN and get the info on all service that was done and when? I'm at almost 42000 mi now and was at 39,000 when I bought it.

If youre looking at the engine cover from the front of the vehicle, go to the left rear corner of the cover and look straight down. You should see a 10 mm bolt holding it down. if youre gonna do a flush itll take like 16 quarts of Nissans matic J. Now being replaced with Matic S. I would go with the S since I dont think Nissan will be making any more J.
