I CAN GET A T04B TURBO DIRT CHEAP BRAND NEW.... ITS GOT A .6 A/R COMPRESSOR WITH A .4 A/R TURBINE. I'M THINKING OF PUTTING THIS ON MY RB20DET TO REPLACE MY BLOWN STOCKER, THIS THING IS QUOTED TO PUSH 625CFM.... DO YOU THINK IT COULD SUPPLY MY RB20DET WITH ABOUT 400WHP? I'M ONLY LOOKING FOR ABOUT 15 LBS OF BOOST TOTAL.... THEN I'LL BE PUTTING A MICROTECH ECU ALONG WITH SOME MORE MODS LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD TO MAKE UP FOR WHATEVER POWER I NEED TO REACH THE GOAL OF ABOUT 400WHP.

ANYWAY, I CAN GET THIS FOR LIKE PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR THIS IS WHY I'M INTERESTED IN IT. THIS CAR WILL MAINLY SEE ALOT OF DAILY DRIVING WITH ALITTLE DRAG RACING ON WEEKENDS. I HAVE TO BE MORE CONSERVATIVE WITH THIS CAR BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE A DAILY DRIVER UNTIL I BUY A NEW CAR NEXT YEAR.

Is it a 60 or 60-1 compressor, is it a .48 or .63 AR exhaust housing?

hmmmm.with the .4 turbine housing it should spool 'fast' for that size turbo, but at higher rpm's effeciency is going to suffer.looks to be a clean turbo but i would do more research on it before putting money down on it.

look like it has a t4-foot print, and the .4a/r will spool up fast. i think it would take 400hp, not more, on that size turbo. have you thought about T61 or something bigger?

BTW! Garrett own Roto Master, so the quality should be good, if it's recently made.

400whp will be a stretch with that turbo. I've seen T04B's on semi built motor make only around 330-360whp.

Theoretically you only need a flow of ~580 CFM to make 400 HP, so that turbo is capable.

In my experience, theory isn't really an option when it comes to calculating HP figures. There are too many dependant factors internally, such as how much air the stock ports and vlaves can flow, compression ratio, actual compression that the motor is making etc.... I think it's possible to do it, but it'll take some good tuning and a bunch of supporting mods, although I could be totally wrong...only one way to find out for sure.

IS IT REALLY THAT BAD ON A RB20?

WELL I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO PICK UP A NEW LARGER EXHAUST HOUSING..... I GOT THE TURBO FOR $350 SHIPPED. I'LL JUST GET A LARGER A/R EXHUAST HOUSING AND DO A COUPLE UPGRADES TO THE INTERNALS AND THEN SLAP IT ON.

Dude, Christian...there are some sweet turbo's on ebay that are rebuilt for 300-350, that would be a perfect match for the RB20.

I GOT MY TURBO YESTERDAY..... ITS REALLY CLEAN AND IT HAS A REBUILD TAG OF EARLY THIS YEAR.

ITS GOT A BIT OF ENDPLAY THOUGH, LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE. I HAVE FOUND A .69 A/R EXHAUST HOUSING THAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT PURCHASING TO UPGRADE THIS TO A TURBO THAT'LL WORK FOR MY APPLICATION.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REBUILD TURBOS OR WHERE I SHOULD GO TO GET THIS ENDPLAY PROBLEM FIXED AND THE EXHAUST HOUSING INSTALLED? ARE THERE ANY OTHER UPGRADES I SHOULD DO WHILE I'M AT IT?

Make sure it has a 360 thrust bearing and that the rebuild company does real good balancing.

i am always in search of turbo information. it is a forever changing decision for me, and i'd like to contribute some that i know.

this is a great site to learn the hardcore details of turbos:

http://www.turbomustangs.com/turbotech/main.htm

the problem is after reading all the jargon, and doing those calculations, i've come up with just more questions.

loosely based on the calculations there, i have chosen 7 candidates, all of which will flow at a minimum flow efficiency of 65-70% @ 4000RPM, which is where they all hit full boost in a CA18DET.

They are; T04B S-3, T04B V1/V2, T04B H-3, and T04E's in 50, 54, 57 and 60 trim. the T04E 54 trim appears to have the best flow efficiency from 74%@4000RPM, but it dies off by 8000RPM. Now a T04E 60 trim seems pretty large, but has a very even flow eff.

I don't know what to choose. i definitely don't want to be one of those guys who buys a GT2530 or whatever and decides he wants more down the road. I want the most this motor can handle before internal upgrades, not including head gasket. and i definitely don't want to have a turbo to big for the motor.

geez. why do there have to be 1 million choices of turbos and only 10 places to learn about them? (i've found 3 :pface)

I don't even want to get into the hybrids, but the honda guys love to run those on their little 1.8L's too. T3/T4 or T3/T04E combos.

I NEED GUIDANCE!!!

:help
