My Infiniti dealer said I needed to replace trans fluid. When I went in for that service I was told I needed to have the compression rod bushings replaced ($50 ea parts, 2hr labor at $120/hr) also pointed to inside tire wear on front tires (only about 2000 mi Kumhos). Car has 29,000 miles on it and no obvious handling problems. How does service know the bushings need replacement unless they just know the bushing are a common problem? I don't see how I'll be able to view wear from underneath even with a flashlight.

Normally when those bushings go out they become noisy especially when driving over uneven areas when turning the wheel where it puts a stress on the chassis. If you aren't experiencing any of those noises, pass on the bushings. Inside tire wear, also referred to as feathering is caused by alignment issues. The toe needs to be set to max toe in on these cars to help with that issue, but will never completely cure the problem as it will always be an issue for g35/37 chassis.

Thanks much for the quick reply! I'm not having any noise and didn't complain of any.
