I got two paint chips on the roof on my M -

So I got a touch-up paint pen at an Infiniti dealer -

The pen has 2 sides - clear and color. Now the question is how to use this pen properly? Do I need anything else to cure my paint chips on the roof? Thanks!

Push the pen on a piece of cardboard til paint starts to come out. That way you can control it. Dab in the spot needing the paint. Let dry for 6-8hrs and then do the same thing for the clear.

Do I need to clean/brush/sand before I use the pen?Soapy water? Windex? Rust converter?

Just make sure the surface is very clean. No dust or anything. Push on the pen slowly until the paint comes out and apply it lightly on the surface. Give it a while for it to dry and do the same with the clearcoat. Again make sure the surface is very clean. When your done with it just put the pen away in your glovebox. Its what I did lol

Make sure you use a rust remover pen to remove any rust and to make the surface smooth for painting. Did you remember to get the primer paint pen? You'll need that after the sanding.

No, haven't got any rust remover or primer paint yet - thanks for the tip! That's exactly why I asked the question here.

You can get the color paint pen, primer pen and clear coat pens at expresspaint.com for $15.00 a pen. The 3M spot sanding pen is available at Walmart in the auto section for $9 and I've seen it on Amazon as well. I don't recommend using the rust convertor products on small areas(like chips) as they usually make the surrounding paint discolor if you apply too much.

Ok, I got primer paint and filling putty in Canadian Tire.I will try Walmart for the sanding pen.

I don't think I need any filling putty in my case - can you tell by looking at the pics?

You won't need filling putty unless you have a dent or a hole. Judging by the pics, its looks pretty shallow.

So I guess all I need is -

1. Sanding pen to clean the chips.2. Primer pen to prime.3. Paint with the color pen.4. Clean coat.

And recommendations how to clean before primer? How many coats of primer needed? Thanks!

I am sorry for so many questions it's just seems like a really simple job but I really don't want to screw it

Use a clean lint free cloth like a microfiber cloth to clean after sanding. Only one coat of each paint is needed and wait 15 minutes between each step for proper drying.

Ok, cleaned and primed on Sunday afternoon.

Do I need to sand (2000grit) before paint or I can paint right on top on the primer?

No sanding required unless the spot is larger than a dime.

Thanks! The two spots are line 2-3mm in diameter, and one is like 1mm.
