As all of you know with stock engine management systems, our main source of ignitors is from the older Q45's. Apparently at some point, Nissan realized that the ignitors that they used on the CA, and the early Q45's weren't reliable, and changed the design. As these ignitors become more rare or if an SR/new style Q45 ignitor is just more readily available, it would be nice to be able to use this newer ignitor. Well in the process of trying to help out a fellow member I've discovered that using them is possible and they should also prove to me more reliable (the SR guys never have problems with ignitors).

OK, this is kinda complicated but just read on.....................

Match up the colors on the plugs that have the same number of wires.

Yup it's as simple as that. There are 2 plugs on both ignitors. Both have a 4 wire plug and both have a 5 wire plug.

Take the SR 4 wire plug and match up the colors to the CA 4 wire plug. Repeat this procedure for the 5 wire plug and you're done.

You will obviously need the plugs cut off of the SR/Q45 along with the new ignitor.

NOTE! I haven't tried this myself as I don't have a CA with an ignitor to do so on. I can't imagine any problems though, but as such, until this has been proven, try this at your own risk.

I've used a CA style ignitor on SR20 and it was straight forward, no guesswork. Pretty sure I just had to match wire colors....

Its surprising how much you can get done on these cars by simply matching wire colors. Engine wiring included, so I am told.

Difference I've found between Nissan and Toyota sofar:

Nissan has the easiest diagrams to follow and colors are standardized for the most part

Toyota... FSMs lack some of the nicer diagrams (like the ECU plug diagram (not just the engine harness, but shows every wire that has a pin on the ECU)

and wire colors randomly change between years of the same model

<3 my toyotas .. but.. wiring takes longer than with the Nissan (where i dont really even need to think about it)...

btw.,. yes pics of cars coming, got alot going on right now
