Okay I wrote this to a friend of mine (who helped me with the title) because I recently sold the kouki he wanted but wanted to help him find another one or make a zenki into one. It is basically a guideline to help build up a kouki with an SR20 swap as well, which is the car he described to me he wanted. Any add-ins would be greatly appreciated since I know that my information isn't 100% accurate. I just went with the knowledge I have off the top of my head. Anyways here's what I wrote to him....

Of course the cheapest way to start is to buy a 1997-1998 240sx. It is the easiest way to start because a lot of the parts you need are already there. but these cars are hard to find. so what is the next best way to start? 1995-1996 240sx SE. Do make sure its the SE. 1995 thru 1998 have the same bodies just different front ends "zenki or kouki" My guess is that since you are on a budget you have to be smart about what you do. If the most important thing to you is power then start with a car that is in need of a motor. It'll be cheaper and since you're going to do a motor swap anyways, the fact that it doesn't run won't really matter. Car ($500 to 2000) + SR20DET ($3000) + Parts Needed (motor mounts, exhaust, turbo timer, boost gauge, air/fuel gauge, intake, Fuel Pump ) + Parts Wanted (Front Mount, Fuel Injectors, Fuel Rail, Boost Controller, BOV, etc)----------------------------->not sure of a price but its prolly around $5000 in mods..........(feel free to correct me) The other option is looks. You can buy a car that runs great but doesn't have the kouki front we all love so much. Have the car checked out by a mechanic or someone who knows cars first of all. You want one that will run for a while before you drop the money for it to look good. No point in having a car that looks hot in your driveway but can't see the streets. The easier way is to do motor stuff because you get more for your money but if looks are your thing and you've got some money to spend then... Car ($3000-5000) + Headlights and corner lights ($400) + Kouki Grill (if wanted) + JDM Front Bumper and turn signals ($400) + Hood ($250) + Fenders ($300) + Bumper supports and headlight supports ($230) + side skirts ($300) and have it all painted ($2500) ----------------------->Total = $4380 in mods Then there are other things that you may have/want to invest in coilovers or springs and shocks ($$) +camber aligment +window tint + wheels (i recommend 350z or deep dish wheels) + make custom projector headlights + stereo/system + custom designs etc...... It can be cheaper to buy an older 240sx and bring it to kouki status but it has to be done right and help from some friendly hook-ups wouldn't hurt. The cheapest way to do it would be to buy a cheap car and do a motor swap with the most basic and needed stuff for the swap. Anything you can do yourself would save you a ton of money. You can find these motors as cheap as 2500 for engine and transmission and harness, so if you know how to hook it up or atleast read how to hook it up you'll save money. Anyways this is just my two cents on the whole matter. Many people may disagree with it, and I don't really know too much about what all you can do to this motor or need to buy if your car is completely stock. But yeah maybe this will help ya get exactly the 240 you want.
