Ok, I have a 1989 240SX that won't start. It looks like a fuel dilery problem cuz a bit of starting fluid sprayed down the intake kicks 'er right over. Removed the fuel inlet hose to the fuel rail and nothing comes out when I turn on the ignition. Checked both front and rear fule filetrs 8replaced them actually), and the FP fuse.

Is there anything else I'm missing or should I start tearing it out(I saw the link to that great web page with pics on doing this so I'm set there). Is there a relay in the loop? Anything else?

Thanks!

Brad

i'm having a similar problem. When i try to start my car it will catch and then die. Sometimes it will only fully stay running if a spray some carb cleaner into the intake. Thats once and a while. Most of the time i'll hafta pulse the gas peddle and try starting like 5-6 times. I replaced the fuel filter in my engine bay. Is there another? u said front and rear fuel filters...can u explain. And i'd also like to know how to check my fuel pump as well.

Sorry about the little hijack :)

Thanks

Andrew

Yes there is a rear one ... just in front of the fuel tank. Not hardto replace except that you'll need to get underneath the car.

I finally broke down and just pulled the pump out ... then it's easy to test with a couple of alligator clipped wires at the battery. The hardest part of getting the pump out is dealling with the fuel lines that connect to it. I used a combo of taped up pliers and a flat bladed screwdriver to work them off. There's a big 4 inch dia O ring under the plate that the pump is mounted to ... make sure you have that in place correctly when you put it back in.

New pump at Autozone cost me $99. The old pump was frozen.

This site is the best for pics and instruction on the procedure ...

Good luck!

I have a S13. Is the rear fuel filter the same size as the front one?

No, it's smaller than the front one. It's just forward of the gas tank on the right hand side of the car.
