how to test for vacum leak

so i have a rough idling missfiring, sputtering engine thats pretty sure running on 3 clyinders.. i either have a crap engine or bad fuel. fuel delivery, or a vacum leak how can i find out on my own...

well if its a vaccuum going to the intake, or maybe even anywhere els, just spray some ether around the lines, and it should idle up if there is a leak, just dont spray it at the end of the intake. good luck
