Now dont get too excited because this is more of a hypothesis than fact, but it makes a lot of sense. Anyway, Nissan stamps most a lot of there parts with a little calender of when a part was in the factory. So you will find a little 91, 92, 93, 94 etc (meaning 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 respectively) and then a dot next to the number which represents a month. So if you see that all 12 dots are stamped for 1991, and 1992, then only 3 dots for 1993 then that means that part left the factory in March of 1993. Or if you see that one had 8 dots after the 91 then it left the factory around August 1991, in which case it could be considered a 1992 model car.
Now what does this have to do with SR's? Well i've been searching for these stamps on various SR parts (for years so clearly not looking that hard). Anyway I picked up some coilpacks last week and found that they have the stamp I was looking for. These coilpacks instead of saying 91, 92 etc, they just say 1, 2, etc to save space. By looking at these numbers and dots I am thinking this tells you the month in which your coilpacks were made and hence the date your SR was made. If some of you with blacktops and redtops want to post what you find, the more info about the subject will help. Unfortunately if you dont have the stock coilpacks then then this will only help tell you how old your coilpacks are and not your engine. I have checked my engine and an S14 engine that I know was a Kouki engine because it came in the clip and they have worked out fine.
Here is a pic I took of my old coilpacks and according to the packs it would lead me to believe my engine was made around March 1991.
BTW I think these stamps can be found in other places on the engine like the upper oil pan, but the coilpacks is one of the quickest checks ive seen.
