Car still failed inspection for gas tank pressure.Smoked, soaped, tightened, still cant find leak anywhere.Pressure is around 30psi at idle.Gas smell is gone, idles and drives good.No codes.

On the big rust covered pipe, there is oil or gas on it.

Are you taking about a Fuel Pressure Regulator?

How long ago was the fuel pump and filter replaced?

The oil on the EGR pipe that leads to the exhaust manifold is from a leaking valve cover gasket.

Pump n filter were changed around Jan.Car just isn't building pressure in fuel tank.Other than that everything passed inspection.I only heard the hiss removing gas cap once since then.Car has been to 2 shops, and they confirm tank is good as well as lines. Now I'm leaning to FPR...

Did the person who changed the pump use ALL the OEM nuts?

The Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) has never failed on one of these cars (G50). So I highly doubt that's the issue. The fuel pump just provides the volume and does not contribute to a pressure loss unless worn out.

Check to make sure there is no fuel on the top of the tank when driving all over the road with a 1/2-3/4 full tank. I know sounds bonkers but that's the only way I can think of it working.

Ditto... I've never seen a regulator fail. Anything is fair game I guess, but I'd look to that last.

What about the whole charcoal canister system... can't remember what it's called at the moment.

Haven't taken it off yet,is there some kinda cleaner I can run thru it?Or does it sound like a gasket problem? There is a strange whine coming from it.Has anyone used a adjustable fpr?

I've never done anything with it except remove it and put it back during an injector swap. The whistle sounds like a bad diaphram, but just a guess...

I think I'd confirm the diagnosis a little more before you go to that extreme...

Ok,not sure if I'm even right about the area or part that's making the sound. It's coming from the rear near firewall at the two pie shaped things on back of engine(hat or flying saucer shaped things).Sounds like the one that sits right on the bigger metal pipe.I pulled the rubber vacume line off and it didn't have any air coming or going to it.Car has plenty off power no codes hand held found now faults.Followed all gas lines looking for this leak that's driving me nuts.Don't want to give up after spending all that money to get her running again but can't even get through inspection to enjoy her.

Sounds more like the EGR valve and BPT. The fuel pump regulator is buried under the plenum.

You won't have vacuum at idle, the EGR is only open at cruise...

Maybe you could post a picture of the parts you're talking about?
