how to tell if its S13 or S14 sr

ummmmmm sorrry i know i know sooo many people have asked you guys this..i was wondering how can i tell if i am buying an Sr20det S13 motor or sr20det S14 motor well please help me out

s13 redtop

s14 blacktop has vvt and a bulge at the end of the valvecover that the s13blacktop doesn't have

yess that means i am getting my sr motor tommrow it is blacktop they gurantee startup if not then they replace it

also the intake runners run completley differnt direction. s13 from bottom up (high port) s14 from top down (low port).

one more thing can you guys actully show me the pic of s14 engine like big one tell me a site ill go check it out

Variable Valve Timing. *Not* like VTEC since you are just adjusting valve timing and not cam profile...lots of engines use a VVT system of some kind these days. Check out howstuffworks.com or do a Google search for "variable valve timing".

you can also look in the SR section of NICO and we have a sticky at the top all about the differences of the engines plus pictures.

this is an S15 but they are virtually identical to the S14 visually.look for the big hump in the VC right by where my strut bar is.what the nissan VVT does is advance the intake cam timing by 20degrees or so during low rpms to recover lost torque dut to the low port intake runners.

extheflow, looks like she did a good job on that engine swap! ;)

Anyway, cool picture and thanks for the clarification on the VVT. I wasn't sure if Nissan's system changed the intake or exhaust timing...very few systems do both, that I know of at least.

yeah...she does ok work...i'm not real sure about the cheerios box gasket she used for the BOV though. :eek:
