i don't want to get under the car. and i don't have to drain it because it's been leaking out through the rubber shifter boot. i'm gonna try to seal it up with some duct tape and zip ties until i can get a b&m. i've searched but everyone just vaguely says how to(remove just the shifter). no one goes into exact step by step. also which is the best fluid, redline? thanks.

yes, i use redline, its the best. there are 6 bolts on top of the shifter plate. take them out, and pull the shifter plate off the trans.

thanks, but that's if u want to take the whole thing out. people say u could just take the shifter out of the plate. like that u can just dump the lube right in through there instead of going on that mission. which redline exactly?

you should try to remove the drain plug & empty the whole thing out/ that way, u won't overfill the unit & blow out the seals leaking out thru that boot you mention is going to leave you w/ a big ?= how much oil to i haveta top off?

if it's like my 89-91 transmission, the fill plug is a square male thingie sticking out on the driver side; I can put a 17mm open end wrench on it or you can use a bigger / adjustable wrench to try to get that fill plug off... that's the only way to check if there's enough GL4oil in the transmission!

well, if you're gonna do a total drain/refill w/ ~2.4 quarts of GL-4 gear oil, clean the drain plug end-magnet from the metal hair you'll see sticking @ the end of that thing...

reinstall w/ some thread sealer...

then,

click on me fo da instructions!

then u can go search from there fo' mo' info if you can't see dose drawrings/ download the FSM on my sig link as well...

hek, ya

but how will you overcome the ? of how much fluid you're going to stuff down there w/out completely doing a drain/refill job?

like i said, you'll risk blowing the main input shaft seal/rear output shaft seal, then you'll have a chattering clutch disc or a really dried out trans/ due to blown seals...
