Yes I know its' been brought up before, but while in Borders this afternoon I found a new book that will help you out.

First there was The Zombie Survival Guide

Now there is a new book, The U.S. Army Zombie Combat Skills

There's also these two books to help you out:

Pretty shweet. I'm actually hoping for a zombie apocalypse. I think it'd be pretty cool to live through one.

I thought the point was that no one ever really does.

Thats what you think. If it was like a movie zombie apocalypse that would be so cool, but if it was a real life it would be totally diffrent.

Seriously though, if there ever was a Zombie Apocalypse there are definitely a few books out there that one could read to learn how to deal with the situation and survive. All of these books can be bought at Borders for roughly < $20 a piece, might want to start picking them up and reading them, I'm about 3/4 the way through Zombie Survival Guide myself.

I dont think anyone will be rising from the grave, I dont think shuffling, brain eating invalids are a threat. A true zombie apocalypse would be caused by a virus, think super-rabies.

How would this Virus Spread? Mucus, Airborn, Std? I would go with mucus, the same way rabies, the common cold, and many other virus' are spread. If this virus caused enough damage to the brain to cause violent outbursts, it would also eventually kill the host, think rabies. Staying clean would be of the utmost importance, the best way to stay clean would be to get away from people, as far away as you can.

That said, how would you get away, if it hit quickly there would be absolute anarchy, the infected would blend in with the crowds of panicked soccer moms trying to loot the grocery stores. I would personally grab the canned and dry goods from my house and head to a sporting goods store. I would pay close attention to grabbing propane, water bottles, more dry goods, tents, fishing/hunting equipment. I own weapons, but I dont think its going to be an all out kill-fest, grab light, easy to carry weapons that can be used for protection or hunting. Grab as much ammo as you feel comfortable carrying, don't weigh yourself down too much, and get the hell out of dodge.

Now that you have left the major metro area, head someplace remote. On your way out of dodge, stop to refuel whenever it is available, also steal liquor and chocolate and tobacco (They make great forms of currency). If you are lucky enough to live on a coast, head out to sea. Get ready to spend alot of time with a small group of close freinds and family, or by yourself.

Just like any Virus, it will come in waves, how long they will last and how long between will be up to you to figure out. Trust no stranger, in a situation like this a little old lady would shoot you for a bottle of water. Watch your group closely, if anyone appears ill, they have to be quarentined. In between waves of the virus, or when things have calmed down a little, loot as much as possible, don't get shot while doing it. I think if this happened, you would be fighting as many wandering healthy people as you would be killing zombies.
THIS is what would happen.

I don't think most people realize that during a zombie apocalypse you have to worry as much if not more about non-zombies as you do zombies. Once fear and panic set in the average person won't think twice about shooting at you even if you prove that you aren't a zombie. Most people also can't shoot for shyte, so while your buddy is busting caps to take out a rush of attacking zombies while you run into a store for supplies you still have to wonder if his accuracy is up to par and if one of these rounds is going to be off the mark and slam into you, especially if they are going all Rambo on those zombies and blasting away in full auto. Most people don't understand CQB tactics either, so while they may be good in a fight in a parking lot or open space, to be able to put that power and technique into practice while enclosed in a tight space (like a hallway, or small room filled with people) generally doesn't end well.

In order to survive you will need to start training for combat now, go to the gym, take some MMA fighting courses, learn how to use any item available as a weapon of death and for gods sakes learn to shoot. Those of us who are prior service military/police, or active military/police stand a much greater chance of surviving thanks to our training. Just remember infected or not if you take it out make sure you sever the head and burn the body to prevent the spread of infection.
