How to Set Lights to Automatically turn off when door opens

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi ... I had a QX4 before my EX and it had a great feature. If you had your headlights on, they would automatically go off when you turned off the car and opened the driver's door. Does anyone know if this is feasible on the EX and how to do it? Thank you!

Just leave the headlight switch on auto...they will turn off as you mentioned. One thing you might notice with this setting is that they will come on at times during the daytime if you have to drive slowly under an overpass or if you drive into your garage, even on a bright day. Sensitivity can be adjusted but I have never been able to get it to a point so they will stay off entering my garage!

To expand on what kamiguy said, when you have the headlights on AUTO, there's a delay which you can configure before the lights turn off. The manual page 2-33 says:

"You can keep the headlights on for up to 180seconds after you push the ignition switch toOFF and open any door then close all the doors. You can adjust the period of the automaticheadlights off delay from 0 seconds (OFF) to 180seconds. The factory default setting is 45 seconds. For automatic headlights off delay setting, see"Auto Headlights Off Delay" in the "4. Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recognitionsystems" section."

Then on page 4-17 it shows that under Settings > Comfort & Conv. you can configure it:

"Auto Headlights Off Delay (if so equipped) :Choose the duration of the automatic headlightoff timer from 0, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150 and180 second periods."

If you physically turned the headlights "on", there is no way the headlights will automatically turn off when you exit. What is the reason you do not want to keep the headlights in "auto"? I don't see a negative reason.....
