Does anyone have any advice on a good venue for selling a VH45 motor? I have an ebay ad and linked it to here but the thread got deleted.

Mods- I understand and agree with the 10 post rule but I did not post a classified ad on your forum. I simply posted a link. I thought it would be better to not pollute your forum with 10 useless posts and then never return. I am simply trying to inform the members here of a motor that will probably sell for much less than it is worth. Thanks

Did you post the link in the Infiniti Parts Forum?

Im not sure why the thread got moved. Generally it is not accepted that one has 1 post and links to an ebay auction, thats pretty shady... However I didnt move your post since you seemed fairly legit...

You cna post here for sale, just provide a description and pics here, not just a link to your auction.

Here is the link to my auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

The motor is located in Albuquerque, NM This is a Nissan / Infiniti VH45 motor out of a Infiniti Q45. Engine has been stored indoors for the past four years, I do not know where it was before that. It seems to be mostly complete but is missing a cam position sensor, Upper O2 sensor, and one of the spark plug/wire covers is broken. Internal Condition is unknown. Could perhaps be used as a 300Z or Silvia swap motor. The Bidder is responsible for confirming part compatibility. Returns will not be accepted. You guys know a lot more about these engines than I do, you also probably have a better idea of what it is worth. The buy it now price is set at $700 but I am accepting offers. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me. [email protected]

Main thing is you don't know the condition of it. Run a compression test on it. It will help lots.

also a picture of one of the heads with the valve cover off would be great. Passenger side cover should come off in a couple mins.

I will be out of town for a few days. If it doesn't sell on the auction I will do a CLT. I don't have a flywheel or starter to do a compression test. I will also try to take the valve cover of and take a few pics. Thanks for the advice.

On a side not I have a few other auctions going for another motor (Ford 4.6), transmission(Honda P20-B000), and my sandrail if anyone is interested.

turn the motor over a few times with compressed air blowing in the spark plug holes.. sometimes, crud will get smooshed inbetween the valve and seat and cause a leak, but the next time the valve opens it will leave and the valve will seal again.

At work, whenever I'm leak checking valves, even on fresh seats and valves, I'll have to tap the stem down a few times before it will seal. Inside those valve covers looks alot cleaner than my engine was for sure.

oh, and that's a good deal on that 4.6.. if you were closer, i'd buy it.

Had some time so I turned the motor over a few times while blowing air in the spark plug hole and got it up to around 70%. It will probably clear with a little more work.

To make that go up even more, get those intake valves shut, and spray some WD40 down on top of them, enough to make a puddle... let em sit for a while, then, turn the motor over to where you can see the valves open, and then use your blowgun and poke it down there and blow the **** out of the valve faces as much as you can.

Just looked at your ebay auction, and using the shipping calculator to move the engine to Utah, that freight price is really high. You will do a lot better if you can keep the shipping costs down.

One way to do this is make shipping dock-to-dock. You drop it off at your local freight company, and the buyer picks it up at his frieght dock.

Try Unishippers, or Overnite Trucking, which is now UPS light freight.

First offer at $400 plus shipping takes it. I will pack it securely in a crate and can have it picked up at my office where we have a forklift if it will help the shipping costs.

From my point of view we can buy JDM takeouts in ATL for $800 -$1000 delivered to our shop with a 90 day warranty and repickup and redelivery.

If they drop one off, we have 7 days to reject it no questions asked so we can tear it down and look before we pay.

US used engines are usually excessive mileages and abused by US owners with bad oil change habits..................we have looked at 26 US junkyard engines and passed on 23. There may be a few junkyard wrecked gems out there in US just not around ATL.

Exhaust manifolds tell you whether US or JDM.

What are the things you are looking for when looking at a used engine? Which is more important; a leakdown or compression test? How much do you charge customers for these JDM engines?

Since you are in ATL you have a few local wholesalers who supply the trade. We inspect our purchases and select from their warehouses and they deliver to our shops.

Depends on what you want a 90-93 or 94-95 or a 96. Experience swapping a few dozens inits lets you know what to look for in selecting a used one.

Which year(s) is the best engine especially for a swap into a S13? I am guessing the OBDI are easier to work with?

94-95 are usually referred to as the best. Metal timing chain guides AND VTC. The 1996 had no variable timing on the intake cams.
