FYI-a new easier cheaper way.
I've read several posts about and have experienced firsthand the trouble with the ABS sensor that is embedded in the spindle of the front strut on the 1997+ Q45's. Typcially when you are replacing the front strut insert (not the entire strut) it is much esier to simply unplug the ABS sensor in engine compartment and snake the plug and wire through the inner fender well and leave the sensor attached to the strut.
But if you are replacing the entire strut such as the case of one is bent (which is what I was doing-my mom wrecked her 97) the ABS sensor will be damaged if you try to pry it out from the back to reuse. BUT, if you remove the hub and rotor splash shield then you can drive the sensor out with the appropriate sized socket.
Removing the hub is easy, it is a 32 mm nut (rented at Autozone) and is torqued moderately and the splash shield is simply 4 phillips screws. Reusing the ABS sensor saves you $75 (?) over the cost of buying a new one.
Good luck!
