I'm in the process of stripping my s14 and was wondering what is the safest way to take out the airbags. I know i'm gonna have to stay grounded at all times and try not to hit it. But what about when i take it out of the car? Is there a guide somewhere?

The first thing you need to do is disconnect the battery. Then you can safely remove the airbags.

Wait a few hours for the backup to drain...

ive done this to like 3 s14's its pretty simple. Diconnect the battery and give it 20 minutes (more than enough) then diconnect the plugs going to each airbag. Once the plugs are off there is no worry, unbolt everything and take it off. Just dont slam the bags with a sledge or anything stupid like that.

I have a question, why would you want to take out your air bags? It seams like a bad idea to do that. I wish my car have air bags.

I just wanted to put a Sparco wheel on. Plain and simple. I had a Momo in a Honda and I fell in love with the feel of a custom wheel.

I repair airbags for a living and in my opinion they arent all they are cracked up to be.When they deploy they really tear some $hit up and they are terribly expensive to replace when they do. They also can cause injury when they deploy if you arent in the right position in your seat (trust me most of us arent when we drive). I once saw a girl get a broken nose from an airbag, not to mention a giant gash on her face. I am glad my car dont have em and if it did I would probably remove them too. And I am pretty sure that about 20 mins is plenty of time for the reserve to bleed off power. once the airbag deployment unit is unplugged from the harness it is pretty safe to handle but I still wouldnt want to kick it around on the ground or anything like that. Just in case anybody wanted to know an airbag doesnt actually contain any pyrotechnics, they actually work off of a electrically induced chemical reaction that produces gas at a rapid rate thus filling up the bag with air. Not seatbelt pretensioners on the other hand do usually contain pyrotechnics because they actually perform physical work to "yank" on the seatbelt to make it tight.
