I read this from a thread on here:

"Your tire sensors were probably not reset the last time the tires were rotated. The dealer is the only one that can correctly reset them and make the screen display the current pressures."

I rotated my tires myself and now my TPMS light is staying on while driving. How can I reset it myself? The TPMS was working fine before I rotated.

Thanks guys.

Well I've driven about 250 miles since rotating and it still hasn't fixed itself yet... if this is normal then I will just wait it out. Any idea on how long they should take to start working again?

I recently put my stock wheels back on, and from what I read people where saying it would work anywhere from 20min- 3days. For me it actually took about a week and a half-2weeks, Prolly about 350-400 miles. Just wait it out a few days.

It's in the manual, and there are several threads on here about it. Lots of people claim they have to take it to the dealer, but I'm not sure any of them ever claim that the procedure in the manual didn't work, just that it never reset. The procedure is something like driving over 25 mph for 10 minutes straight (either of those numbers may be signficiantly higher, I don't rememeber). Mine resets the day I have them rotated almost every time, but I have several segments of driving more than 10 minutes long with the potential to be non-slow non-stop.

I got my car from an Acura dealership immediately after they rotated the tires. It took 2ish weeks for them to reset. I thought it would never happen and that I was going to have to buy new sensors, but one day I toggled through and it was randomly reading pressure. I only drive about 5 miles to work so that's probably why mine took a little longer than most.

I had always heard it was driving over 30mph for 10 minutes. So just take a trip on the freeway somewhere and you should be fine. If it still doesnt show up, give it time. It will start working eventually. The sensors are pretty temperamental

I believe it's based on milage driven and it has varied on my M. You shouldn't have to take it to the dealer unless a sensor is bad. I agree with nolmt50. Wait it out. Take the M on a 30-50 mile run then check it.

i just had my tires swap and two out of four sensors didn't register. However after 2 days of light commuting between home, work and around town, the other two sensors show up. So i concur that you should wait them out. especially when they work before the swap. Unless they're bad to begin with, you don't need to do anything unless you have access to someone with a reset tool.

I would also check the tire pressure. These shops will give the tires a little bit of air sometimes. Everytime I have mine rotated, the shop always bumps the pressure up to 35PSI eventhough the sticker they add in the window says 33PSI. Once I lower them to 33PSI and take it for a drive, BAM! They work again.

Maybe just coincidental

On my old M I change the tires from summer to winter, every year. No problems. I did have a sensor go one time and it was recommeded to drive it over 30 mph for 20 minutes. No luck. Finally had to go to the dealer to get them all reset. Don't know if that applies to the newer M's.

UPDATE

Mine finally reset, probably took around 600 miles or so. Not sure why it took that long, but just wanted to let you guys know that sometimes it does take a while.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Deferred gratification and delayed gratification denote a person’s ability to wait in order to obtain something that he or she wants. This intellectual attribute is also called impulse control, will power, self control, and “low” time preference, in economics.

Sociologically, good impulse control is considered a positive personality trait, which psychologist Daniel Goleman indicated as an important component trait of emotional intelligence. Moreover, people who lack the psychological trait of being able to delay gratification are said to require instant gratification and might suffer poor impulse control.

The Stanford Marshmallow Experiment (1972) indicates that good impulse control might be psychologically important for academic achievement and for success in adult life. Research also indicates that animals do not defer gratification, but instead apply hyperbolic discounting, so, the intellectual problem of delayed gratification is philosophically fundamental to human nature.

I had one TPMS removed because the core would not come out.
My other three did not ever reset. Just put in a new fourth TPMS when rotating the tires.

Has anyone else noticed that all the people who are complaining about this own 2006/2007 M's?
So I looked in the G forums.... almost al complaints are again for 06's and 07's. Coincidence? Nah. The TPMS on M/G 06/07 must be "special" :(.

I also found this post:
post6315275.html?hilit=tpms#p6315275
So I am going to try it.

Welcome to the forum...

Just keep driving...this has been discussed a million times. They will re-register on their own. If they do not, firestone likely did something to them. I moved my 19" wheels from one car (2007 M35x) to a completely different car (2011 M56x) and they picked up without anyone doing anything but driving it.
