After I filled up the first time, I had the SES light come on, and with less than 500 miles on the car, I figured the problem was a loose fuel cap.

I got on line and found a process to read the code and to reset the SES light. This may be old news, but i printed it out to keep in my car...

1. Sit in the driver's seat and turn the ignition switch ON, but don't start it.

2. Wait exactly 3 seconds.

3. Push the accelerator fully 5 times in less than 5 seconds.

4. Take your foot off the accelerator and wait exactly 7 seconds.

5. Push and hold the accelerator for 10 seconds. The SES light will start to flash.

6. Fully release the accelerator pedal. The SES light will continue to blink.

7. Turn the ignition switch to “OFF” position and start the car. The SES light should be off.

It took me a few tries to get it, but it worked...

The flashing light will tell you the fault code, but all I wanted to do was reset the SES warning light.

This would be a great sticky if you posted how to read the error codes and the error codes.

If one of the mods wants I can post the error codes and how to interpret the error codes.

I've actually done the entire write up on how to read your error codes here:

http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread?id=351892

I didn't post all of the codes though....my discussion was regarding the 0442 code (small evap leak - aka gas cap). I think it would be good to post the rest as its a good thing to check to make sure you don't have a legit problem before you go resetting your SES light...

even if you have a problem resetting the code just means in about a few miles/kilometers the check engine light will come back on.

On the 2012 Nissan Rogue, I prefer to use the menus on the odometer stick controls to reset the mileage timer.

Turn key on - starting the car is optional but not required.
Click the right mileage reset stick to go through menus
You'll notice the odometer stick control not only can be pressed, but can be rotated.
When you get to settings screen, there are lots of options.
Rotate stick to select maintenance timer. Press stick to select reset option. Done!
That is, till the timer expires again after 5000 miles. :)
