On my 1991, the ECU is located behind the passenger front kick panel. I haven't performed a test on mine yet, but you have to pull the carpet trim piece out and then loosen the 2 rear screws or bolts (whatever is securing it) and take out the front 2 so that you have space to use the screwdriver.

Close Danny...

Take out that carpet thing, adn then remove the 2 screws... Then take the main harness off, loosen with a 10mm socket.. Then you can take the ECU out and then plug it back in (using 10mm socket)..

Then simply turn the screw all the way one way, and then the other way.. then you can read the codes... Once you do that... turn the screw the one way and then back the other way, and it will clear the codes.

OBD2 [1996 Infiniti] or later are usually reset with an inexpensive scan tool whereas OBD1 reset themselves [the check engine light that is] when the problem goes away.

OBD2 has a unique time delay for emissions testing............the system must show that the car has been driven roughly 50 miles at differing speeds with multiple cranks so that the MIL light OUT is valid.

You just cannot reset the ecu and have an immediate emission test!!!!!!!!!

It will fail and report "not ready for testing"
