What options do I have for replacing a section of the seat where the leather has torn?

Well if its torn at a seam then you can get it stitched back up. just like if either the stitching has come un-done or its ripped..But if its in the leather then I think your screwed. It would need to be re-upholstered. so where is the rip?

You can buy vinyl patching kits for the tear in the seat bottom. The seat back should be easy to repair, too, since it runs between seams. Just get some matching color leather, cut a patch, and sew in along the existing seams. Might be a shop that can do it for you.

I don't think I can do justice to this repair by myself. I'm not exactly a seamstress. A reputable shop in town quoted me $679 to replace the two patches of vinyl and leather. Isn't that insane? Most of what I'm paying for is labor, since they have to ever so carefully cut those areas out, then even more carefully sew a new patch on, using the same stitch holes. Getting the entire seat recovered with Catzkin leather is cheaper, only $599.

I'd check local salvage yards for a matching Seat, see if you can find one in good condition there for cheaper Might save you some money and get you a non-repaired seat. You could also look into switching to racing seats, You can get 2 Sparco or Recaro seats for around 600 (289 each on the entry level Sparco seats) but then you'd also need racing harnesses.

Those are my two ideas, just pitching here.
