how to replace the license plate light for 2010

anyone help. i downloaded the service manual and it seems like you have to strip the entire back.

anyone knows a easier method?

Hehe... when I replaced my '06 plate lights, I actually had to call the dealer for advice! (and I've literally torn cars to the bare frame and rebuilt them, engines included!). Yes, the only way to replace the lights is to remove the interior panel of the hatch. This goes without saying; replace them with long-life bulbs!

OR, you could smash the plate light lenses and yank the bulbs out that way...

Yep, if the new Mos are like the Gen 1's, you have to remove that entire door panel (from the inside) to replace those bulbs. It's a PITA the first time (thank god for the FSM which shows exactly how to take the panel off). But it's really easy to do and, after you do it once, the next time you have to get inside the rear hatch for any reason, you'll pull that panel off in just a couple of minutes.
