How to replace plugs in an '07 Sentra?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

My question is, do I have to remove the intake manifold to replace the plugs on an '07 Sentra with an MR20DE? Seems crazy, but I see no other way. If so, will I need a new intake gasket or is the manifold O-ringed?

Thanks, Mike

According to my 09 FSM, that is the correct/only way to get to the spark plugs. You shouldn't have to replace the gasket unless it looks worn or damaged. If this is the first time opening the manifold you should be fine.

OK, thanks very much for looking it up for me. I'm sure there will be others who will be wondering the same thing when the time comes for them.

when you say they don't fit, do you mean the plugs are not standard size or you can't reach them with your socket? I'm not sure sure what size they are but it's most likely 5/8

Thanks for the reply and feedback. What size spark plug socket were you using? It was a spark plug socket and not a regular socket right?

OK let me get this straight:

1. You can fit the socket all the way in directly onto the new plugs?2. When you put that same socket over the ones in the engine, it does not go all the way in so you cannot grip the spark plug and turn it?3. Does it look like something is blocking it if #2 is true?4. Are the spark plugs easily visible and reachable once you've removed the manifold?

Sometimes you have to use an extension on your ratchet to reach the spark plugAlso check the rubber housing inside the spark plug socket and make sure it can slip easily onto the top of the spark plug

Think you may need a thin wall socket? Ask nico online mechanic.
