I did it twice before realising my starter wasnt the problem, i was losing ground as it tried to crank.

Anyway, DEFINATELY disconnect the battery. I removed the intake bracket that goes from the upper plenum down to just above the motor mount. That will give you lots of room. After that, it comes out pretty easy from under the car.

Good luck!Jason

I usually go about it with a wrench of some sort.

Anyway, it can be a b**** to get to, it's much easier to do it from beneath the car.

I used one from NAPA for a 88 Pulsar with the CA18DE. It does have a plug coming off of it, but the OE JDM one has the same plug, just made onto the starter. Ive been using my Pulsar starter for over a year without a single problem.

i did this up to yesterday.had to replace some parts in mine. the easiest way is to go from underneath the car so get a jack and some jack stands, jack up the car from the front beam infront the radiator.i used the jack stands under my crossmember.make sure when u r jacking the handbrake is down and not up so the car comes forward and the jack doesn't go forward.place something behind the rear wheels after the propping the car with the stands. next take off the battery leads or u'll be sorry. u'll need a 12mm and 14mm spanners. there is a black wire that jus unplugs, next the cable from the battery that's black with a red stripe is held on with a 12mm nut.this wire goes to the starter solenoid.after all that's removed then use the 14mm spanner to remove the 2 starter bolts.one should be in clear sight with the other one slightly above.after removing these bots the starter is loose.last but not least push the started to the front of the car between the intake manifold brace and once it's out of the grear box bell housing turn it downwards and take it out.good luck.it's quite simple.
