hey everyone,

one of the low beams on my M just burned out today so i thought i'd see what the easiest way to replace it was....

i've just ordered a new pair of bulbs so they'll hopefully be here by this weekend...

I know the basics of not getting dirt, oil, etc on the bulb - was hoping someone could walk me through the easiest way to access the housing for the replacement

it looked like I could just pull out the air filter housing for easy access but I only took a quick glance.

thanks for any help!!!

Screw taking out the dam headlights!!! Stick your hands in there, there is PLENTY of room. If I remember correctly there is a plastic piece right above the access port to the bulbs, just take that out and you'll be fine. All that extra work is a big waste of time, unless you have nothing better to do of course.Cheers

I just replaced both of mine 3 weeks ago. You do not need to take out the whole headlight, but I did take out the battery and tray so I could access it better. It took me about 35 minutes to change both of them. There is a black cover that screws off, the you turn the actual bulb and pull it out. Very simple.

Oh yea, have you already purchased the bulbs? I got my on eBay from someone that was recommended here and both of them were under $70.

exactly what I was thinking. I changed my oem fogs to yellow and I went against the provided docs. I can do one side in less than 5 minutes without all that extra work.

I'll be doing some phillips 6K bulbs soon and I only plan on removing the battery and the air box or I might just get help from a neighbor kid with small hands.

hey,

thanks for everyone's help regarding the bulb replacement. def. forget about taking out the headlamp housings. the bulb replacement ended up taking about 20 mins.

just pulled the battery on the passenger side and on the driver side, there is enough room to replace the bulb w/out removing the air filter.

Thats my recommendation but you could get them from anybody. But yeah Ultinons are 6000K, which is the highest I would recommend for practical use.
