The PDF for the R33 manuals either no longer works, or my computer is f'd up. But I am having trouble releaving the pressure off the tensioner so I can get the cams and cam pulleys out. Usually I have always stuck a prybar down there and pried it over to releave the tension, but this doesn't seem to be working on this motor. I was going to remove the whole cover but someone prior to me busted off bolts in the crank pulley holes so I can't pull it. I don't want to go out and buy a pulley puller just for one job.

Help.

Bro I hope you were kidding when you said you were using a Prybar on your timing belt tensioner????

Umm you better take the pulley off so you don't mess up your timing.Go to autozone, Rent it, its Free

Take out the radiator it easier also.Pull off the crank pulleyPull off the timing coverGet a allen key ready and UN-Screw the nut on the Tensioner. (NO Prybars needed)

Do you know how to install the timing belt?

Yeah, the 1st cyl. has to be at TDC and the dot's on the cam pulleys need to line up. I think on this motor it is with the marks on the inner cover right? Where some motors they line up with each other.

I was just wondering if there was an easier way. Most tensioners are on a swing arm that can be easily movers to release the tension. APperently the RB is a little different design. I''ll get me a puller and do it that way.

Yeah there's marks on the inner timing cover plate behind the Timing gears. (Cam gears)

But.... you must line up the mark on the timing gear on the crank (in front of the oil pump, behing the Crank pulley) up with the mark on the Oil pump.

To get to the Tensioner bolt you have to remove the cover ( I believe). Plus its just easier.

If you mess up your valve timing your not going to be a happy camper.

Dude, use a gear puller and a socket that fits through the middle of the crank pulley to get that thing off.

YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE LOWER COVER TO GET AT YOUR TIMING BELT TENSIONER. DO NOT PRY!

I already have the bolt out of the crank pully. So all I need is the puller, will stop tonight to borrow one for A.Z.

Thanks guys. And the last time I did this was on my B16 CRX and it was alot easier. Like I said, the tensioner was on an arm the was easily swung aside to releave the tension on the belt. And only had 2 marks to line up on the cam gears as long as the timing marks on the crank pulley were at TDC.

And I am not replacing the belt. It has a new one on it. I am swapping out cams and cam gears. That is kinda why I was trying not to dissasemble the bottom end of the belt setup.

You have to remove the crank pulley or you can't be sure you lined your timing belt up right. This is not the place to take short cuts.

Take a utility knife to the belt. It slips out very easily after.

Ok... not to sound mean or anything but are you sure you know what you are doing? This is a very serious job, especially since our motors have ZERO tolerance heads.. IE if you miss one tooth, and turn your motor over.... yup cylinder head into Valve...=****ed.......

Yes, I know what I am doing. Clearance requirements, timing marks and such. Like I said, for those that can read, I am used to tensioners that are on a spring loaded swing arm and can relieve the tension very easily by swinging said arm using nothing more than a sleever bar and very little leverage. When i said pry I guess it was the wrong word to use because I did not try to exert that much force on the thing. Pry is a strong word for what I was trying to say. I have gotten a pulley puller and done it the right way for this motor. That's all I was asking, how to do it for this motor.

Note: Depending on what gear puller you receive, you may want to place a washer between the pin on the gear puller and the hole on crank. (act as a buffer) I have a nice Proto gear puller and I did this because the tip of the puller was over 60 degrees and I did not want to damage the threads inside the crank.

Just a thought..

Thats why you just put the crank pulley bolt in the hole and let it rest there... works like a charm.

WHAT?! And prying on the tensioner isn't dumber?

Dude you've gotta ease up a little. I think a lot of people, including myself, are getting tired of your negative posts lately.

I've been keeping most of the negative comments to myself lately. Darius, I could totally rip you apart on your build but you've had so many bad things happen to you, I decided to spare you.
