How to remove the gear shifter?? (Auto)

I cannot figure out how to get the gear shifter off and Ive already done some damage to it. I wanted to take the center console out today to clean all the crap I can see down thru my ebrake hole.



All I noticed is the 2 screws on the front of it, I took those out and the shifter kind of slid up an inch, then the OD button popped off on its own and a spring followed behind it.

It would not lift off by itself with the 2 screws removed and I didnt want to force it so I left it alone. and put the screws back in.

Then I went to drive the car to work just now... and my OD no longer works!!!!

OD button doesnt function.

Has anyone ever taken there gear selector off or have any advice for me. Im stupid for messing with it I know but theres such a mess of fries and junk under this console!!

Yeah, I've taken my shifter apart a thousand times. It's really simple. All you need to do (which you've already done) is remove the two screws on the front of the shifter. You then pull up on the shifter and the shifter button will pop off and so will the spring behind it (which you already know). On the bottom of the shifter is the terminals for the OD button. When you pull up on the shifter the harness will automatically disconnect. The OD harness can be a bit of a pain since it likes to slide down the shifter shaft, making it very difficult to retrieve and reconnect. All you needed to do was give the shifter a firm tug and it will pop off. Don't worry about breaking anything. Just make sure you reassemble the button and spring properly or you'll find that the button doesn't depress and spring back as it used to. The best thing to do about the small OD connector is to use some sort of clip to hold it above the slider thing. When you go to reassemble the shifter you can use something like a flat head screwdriver to reconnect the OD harness.

This probably makes very little sense but you will see what I'm talking about when you get it apart. Your OD probably doesn't work right now because you probably just disconnected the harness when the shifter popped up.

I gave her a yank and no connector let go, only wires lol

I did find where they broke and solderred them together and the OD started working again. But ofcourse I solderred them before putting the silver shift cover back on, so Ill have to cut and resolder

Im curious what "connector" you were talking about that was supposed to let go though

Damnnnn, that must be really stuck on there. It's hard to see in that picture but at the very bottom of the chrome shifter piece where the wires go in, there should be a white piece of plastic that separates and acts as the wiring harness. You may need to separate it with a flat head or something, it may be stuck together. Can you do me a huge favor and take a close-up of where the wires go into the shifter? I could be completely off and maybe the shifter is completely different, but it would be nice to have a picture for future reference.

Ya theres a white piece of plastic t the bottom of the shifter wit the 2 wiresc, but it doesnt seem to disconect at all

What kinda pictures of whja would y9u like, might aswell since it completely dissembled and I have to cut the dam wires to make it work again ad install it anyways
