The triangular corner plastic that covers my M56 side mirror bolts is mounted incorrectly.
How do you remove it? Does is just pull off? Mine looks deformed on the driver's side, and developing a crack (note black plastic turned white from deformation, and the dent just below that). The top corner of this triangle sits 1/2 inch away from the door frame on LHS, but sits against it on the RHS. I don't want to break it during removal. Any ideas?

Should be just pop in plastic piece that should just pop off. Use a interior removal tool or flat screwdriver. Just be careful not to hurt anything when prying.

Pull off in which direction? Towards steering wheel? Or towards rear of car? Are they reusable clips, or what?
I tried pulling towards the steering wheel, but it didn't budge.
Do I need to remove the door inner panels first?

I don't think that it just pops off. According to the parts diagram on the website: http://parts.infinitiusa.com/nissanpart ... K63081MA0A

This is the mirror base, which has 3 studs that pass through a packing piece before it goes through the door frame and is attached with 3 flanged nuts. You will probably need to remove the inside panel first.

If you look at Debonair's How To & FAQ on installing signal mirrors: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/diy-in ... i-q70.html

the triangular inside mirror cover is part of the inside door cover sash and you need to remove the inside door panel first.

I did a How To remove your inside door panel with a few more detailed pics, so you should be able to tackle this job: how-to-remove-interior-door-panels-fron ... 09590.html

good luck and let us know how it goes!

I repaired it. See photos here ( https://imgur.com/a/IjCWx ).
Thanks to Craig (pedsemdoc) for his excellent tutorial on door panel removal.

First, I removed the door panel. Then I unplugged the mirror (white) & tweeter (brown) electrical connectors. Pop the 2 blue clips that fasten the front end of the sash (no fasteners at other end) to the door frame. Lift off the sash. Remove the hidden 3 screws that hold the tweeter and its triangular cover onto the sash. I found the triangle had 2 bent plastic posts, so I straightened them with a heat gun. Careful, the plastic softens and melts quickly! Now it reinstalls in proper alignment, to match the passenger side. Yay!

Glad it wasn't too hard of a fix, the misalignment of that piece would have driven me NUTS!!! I would have to fix it too, but I am a little OCD about my car.

After seeing it is much to get that piece off, I am almost tempted to try the side view mirror turn signal mod - but I am shopping for an extended warranty right now so I don't want to do any mods that might affect me passing the FULL inspection that is required prior to purchasing the policy (since you have to tap into your turn signal wires at some point).

The tricky bit was to discover how to remove the parts. So many hidden screws and clips, esp. inside the cabin. Good thing I didn't just yank off that triangle. Thanks to your door-panel tutorial, I got those off quickly without breaking anything, and the sash removal was just as easy. :-)

Turn-signal mirrors would be a cool mod. But the tutorial I recall seeing just snips off the white electrical connector with scissors! Hell no! I would not cut off those wires. Nope. My OCD alarms would go haywire. :-) Instead. I would remove each of the pins from the connector. That's a common trick in most cars, using a sharp pointed needle or tiny screwdriver to remove the locking lever on each pin. Painting the mirror housing is no problem, since I found perfectly matching paint via Amazon. Good luck with insurance and then the mod.

Removing each pin is how the factory manual says to do it. I am the one who cut the wires (with wire cutters). CUT CUT CUT! Hell yeah! :rotfl

As far as I know I'm the only one who has installed signal mirrors on the Y51. I'm excited to see some more people thinking of taking them on. :woot:
