There is a lot of oil leaking out the top of my transmission (which smoked my trans) and I need to change the boot thats on the shifter but cant seem to get the dang thing off. Does anyone know how to do this?

You can see the boot in the bottum of section 341 in this pic. I tried unscrewing the upper part of the shifter so I could slide the boot off the top of it, but no luck.

There are 2 tie straps that hold the shifter boot in place so I am going to assume you removed both of them.

I have always just used a little bearing grease around the smaller end of the boot and carefully pulled it up the stick shift but since you need to assess the seals in there you could just remove the c-clip that holds the shifter in place and pull the boot off over the round knuckle joint on the other end of the shifter.

Just be carefull you don't loose the white nylon socket that sits on the end of the shifter. You little diagram has it pcitured just above the small tie strap.
