I'm trying to remove the upper intake manifold, so that I can get to my knock sensor to change it out. It's impossible to reach that thing without removing this crap out of the way. I undo all the bolts/nuts, but the thing won't budge. There's a stud that uses nuts to attach each of the 4 corners on the upper intake manifold. The way they're aligned, I can't pull the intake off, the studs are making it get stuck.

Do I have to remove the lower portion in order to pull the upper intake off? If so, how hard is it? Is it just a few bolts or what? All of the brackets and hoses are disconnected, it's just those 4 studs holding the thing on. Please help! thanks.

Yeah you do have to remove the bottom part too. There is bolt underneath that keeps the whole assembly in place. Remove that and disconnect the wires and lines and it should come out.

Ah okay, so you just have to take a few bolts out for the bottom intake to come out? Do you have to climb under the car to do that then or can you reach from the top? Thanks.

Yeah, I'm stuck with the motor in, no way of lifting it out. Guess I'll be taking the bottom manifold off tomorrow too, unless someone knows of a better way to do this? Thanks.

Just to be sure, is it just one bolt holding the lower manifold on? Just wondering how big of a job it really is to take out the lower intake manifold!

I am in the middle of this right now and am having a similar problem. although, I am only trying to remove the bottom part, the intake collector.

I removed the 2 bolts/2 nuts along with the alt. bracket bolt. Does the alternator need to be removed? There is another bracket bolt that i want to try to take out but i can't get to it without removing or loosening the alternator...thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, I still haven't gotten around to removing them yet. How much stuff needs to be removed to take the bottom intake manifold off? Like I said, I undid all the bolts for the upper intake mani and still couldn't get it off. It was loose, but wouldnt' budge without taking the lower intake mani off first it looks like. Anybody know how to?

can a person remove the intake manifold from the head without disconnecting any pipes or anything. cause it looks liek the manifold just bolts on to the block and that most of the wires and pipes go to the intake manifold.

well to answer my own question it ook all of an hour for me to take my intake mani off completely. still got the grease on my fingers, the hardest parts was these two tubes that go from the block to the manifold they were short and hard to get to and getting them back on will be a ROYAL PITA . but now i just have a coupe of other tubes to disconect and taking the heads off should be a breaze.

Did you do this on a sr20 motor then? I'm trying to think of what tubes you mean...are they just short rubber hoses? How many bolts were holding the lower intake manifold on? I know the upper has like 10 bolts or so, just wondering if the bottom one will take as long.

Where in Idaho are you at? I'm from Rigby, my brother lives in Meridian by Boise. I miss it back home!

ther was eight blots o ntop holding ht manifold on to the head and , i think it was 4 bolts o nthe bottem unbolting it was easy,

the two rubber hose come from the head to the intake but they are up under neither i had to use two pairs of needle nose pliers ot get them off. one pair was for pulling on rubber pipes. they were held on by the mettal clip things that you have to squeeze.. it was mostly a pain casue they were so short you cant pull the intake of verry far. so you have limited space.

lol i climbed inside the engine bayand tood on the support braces so i could get at the right angle.

lol i live i northren idaho, by lake cda!!!

crap i just remebred i need to run home and pick up the bolts so i dont lose any.
