How to remove gear selector cover 08 Armada?

Hey, guys....I need some help here. Last night my son found a spare house key inside my car and he slid it between the black cover on the gear selector. Now i am unable to move the gear selector into R, D, N, etc.....

I've downloaded the repair manual online, but it doesn't seem clear if it's attached with screws or just clips. Two separate images showing two separate things. Can I just use a flat head and pop it open? Is there any screws holding it down?

unscrew the shift knob and remove it. then take the u-finisher (located just behind the A/T finsher) off, then the A/T finisher will come off. it's just clips holding it on the console.
