ok is there a way to remove the lower intake plenum without pulling the cam gears to get that backing plate off? I've seen guys cut the plate and be fine but the timing pulley sits on that and not sure if cutting is such a good idea, is there a way to remove the stud? going to remove one way or another tomorrow thank you

Are you trying to replace the idler pulley stud or trying to remove the lower intake plenum? If just trying to replace the stud, you don't need to remove the lower plenum. It's part of the 120k procedure, and you'd back it out however you back out studs that have been sealed in with thread lock.

If removing the lower plenum, once you have the fuel rail and everything off there's several bolts to the heads. Once those are removed it should come right up, and I wouldn't think you'd need to take the backing plate off to let it slide out.

Yes it is. I've bent the shields to get it out and just bent them back once I was done installing it back. Just make sure it has good clearance from the cam gear.

I haven't had to remove any studs, but I'd try Googling some terms like this: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=c ... ne%20block. You shouldn't need to remove the lower plenum.

If you do end up removing the lower plenum, replace the knock sensor while you're right there!

I second that, after having to pull my plenum 2x in a year.
