Brief History91 KA24DETOrginal engine died do to Rod knock just installed StageII.2nd engine completely rebuilt Nico classifieds to much boost 1bar broke uppper and lower ring lands

Things learned so farAMS: Very good company to buy from. Ordered parts on a Monday everything came in Wednesday night! AMS rods look really good!Balanced Engine: AMS rods and Aries piston did not need to be balanced. The pressure plate and fly wheel was the only thing balanced.

I have all ready bought AMS basic rebuilt kit with ARP hardware and AMS rods. I got tired of breaking stuff and my car sitting in the driveway. A friend of mine who knows how to do basic rebuilding of engines is way to busy to help me out. It has been a long time since I rebuilt Ford small block 302. After reading the FSM, searching the internet and book stores on a how to rebuild engines I decided to make decisions on what I would do and allow shop to do. I really didn`t want a shop to do all the work since half the fun is doing it yourself but I didn`t want major problems after investing a lot of money.

Things I decided to let a shop do for short block assembly:1. Install rods on the pistons. Arias clips are a PITA.

2. Hone cylinders. I have know idea what stones to use and how much to hone it.

3. File fit the rings and install rings on pistons. I think this is something I can do without a ring filer tool but again I am not sure.

I am not sure if there is anything else I am missing but so far I think this should allow me to start putting the bottom end together using the shop manual for torque specs. I think I am going to take pics and document as I go with the rebuild. If anybody has any what to look out for or info I would appreciate it.

I would have the shop ballance the whole assembly so that you know it would be good to go.

good luck d00d!

I recently did my first rebuild on my kaE with the turbo 240 rods & ARIAS pistons. The damn wristpin clips are a PITA for sure.

One piece of advice on the rods... I couldn't get the damn caps off so i loosened both the rod bolts then re-threaded them into the rod 3 full turns then using a RUBBER hammer/mallet tap on the arp bolts while holding the rod cap with hand and that will separate the rod caps alot easier. Also mark the cap/rod sides with a marker to keep the correct orientation.

I called ams about the torque spec for the arp bolts... cause the directions mentioned a final angle torque (torque to yield) and they told me to just torque them down to 45 ft. lbs and their good to go. I checked clearances with plastigauge and they were at .002" @ 45 ft. lbs.

Just FYI i had a total of 7 grams removed from 3 of my pistons to match the lightest one. The rods were all pretty damn close (within 1 gram)
