Well I got my calipers in the mail today and I want to rebuild them but I have a problem. When I rebuilt my stock ones I pushed the piston out from behind and cleaned and lubed it up before reinstalling it. My problem is how do I get the pistons out of the 300 calipers? There doesnt seem to be a way to push all 4 of them out. I almost have one out using vicegrips but I I think I am screwing up the piston and it is a pain in the a$$. Anyone have any recomendations?

Sounds like a personal problem as this is the way it's done.

Visegrips? The pistons must maintain a microscopic finish to avoid wearing the seals

There is a lip where the seal sits and I grapped the piston on the outside of that. The pistons are rusted enough anyway that I want to get them out and clean them off like I did with my stock ones. It makes a nice difference. Now I just have the calipers sitting on my kitchen table because I cant get them apart.

The only two ways I know of is either compressed air or hook them up to the car and pump them out. Short of that, if you can find a small inside gear puller you may be able to lock it inside the piston and pull it out. That might work but would be quite a trick to get a good enough grip.

I got them out last night. Since my compressor was proken I used the air in my dads dentist office. It was a pain because it was low pressure but eventually it worked. I made a bit of a mess because when I would push really hard sometimes I would hit the water button.

I'm going to have very bad dreams about going to the dentist and rinsing with brake fluid now:alcoholic . LOL!

Dont worry, I disinfected everything when I was done and ran plenty of air and water though the lines just to be sure no brake fluid was in them. Living above a dentist office is cool. I use the lab tools when I need them, lots of polishers, grinders, hand drills, micro sandblasters etc.

Ok. I got the pistons out and I just got my rebuilding kit and I have a few questions. In the seal kit there are two packets of pink gel. I assume these are seal lubricants. In the hardware kit I have two types of shims and two packets of a metallic gold goo. One type of shim is standard metal and the other has elongated holes in it. Which shim goes where? Now as I am writing this I realized that my hardware kit did not come with pad pins and springs. I guess I need to order them now. This brake swap is just getting more complicated every day.
