I am wondering how to use the EGT gauge. What temperature range would I be considered running rich, lean, normal? What else can I use the EGT for other than to see if my car is running rich or lean?

i've only ran an egt since i got my turbo kit. 1400 is good while in boost after that ur starting to lean out. aluminum (ka heads) i hear melts at 1525 degrees or so, so if u get up that high u have other problems

What I've been told is that pistons start melting at 1600F on the EGT. The highest I've ever seen mine go is 1450, and I was still running rich at that point. Usually it stays between 1000 and 1250.

I have a cheesy A/F gauge. It's not the super pimp wideband, but it gets the job done to tell me if I'm running lean or rich. It takes it's reading from the O2 sensor.

Anyway, at WOT at 1450, it was running in the blue. I'm not sure exactly how rich. I really put the gauge in as a warning for a lean condition. Luckily, I haven't seen any yet.

1400 is a good place to be. You're still under the 1600.
