how to program remotes?

When I bought my J30, there were no remotes. If I bought some off eBay, is there a way to program them myself, or do I have to have the dealer do it?

OK. I got the remote, and have followed the instructions many times, but nothing happens.

The problem seems to be with the car, not the remote. I have inserted the key more than 6 times in 10 seconds per the instructions (with doors locked and trunk open; also tried with trunk closed a few times). But nothing happens. Aren't the lights supposed to flash? Even without the lights flashing, it seems I can not 'de-program' the code in the car, which I must do first to program the new remote, right?

I know my car (its a 1997) has an alarm system, because the 'armed' light on the dash is funtioning once the doors are locked. I am stumped.

Any suggestions?

No.. The lights flash at the end... you are supposed to do the key thing, unlock and lock the drivers door,and then press lock on the remote, and THEN the lights flash.

Make sure the trunk lid is raised, so that the trunk light is on. It's not because of the light, but because of the circuit involved.

Well, okay, it's actually just voodoo ritual, but the car believes in it, so we have to as well.
