Has anyone came up with a way to easily open up the spring loaded valve/flap inside the exhaust line right before it goes into the muffler? It opens automatically at 4900rpms for a better sound.. but I can reach u see the car and manually open it by pressing on the mechanism.. just can't figure out a way to make it stay open without heading to the muffler shop..

Also, has anyone ever removed any of the three resonators and gotten a better sound? I'm proud to have a V8, and I'd like to hear it... But I don't want to spend a grand doing so if I don't have too... Any ideas or experience would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I figure you could "gut it" the way you would a catalytic converter. You'll need to take the exhaust muffler off and get access to that end of the pipe. Then knock it out with a crow bar or something. I don't know what it looks like, but you could potentially remove the spring and bend the valve in half to free it from it's pivot points. Perhaps it's used to control backpressure. Is it actuated or just flapping on a spring? Here's another thread that seems similar. I'm not sure if they are talking about the same thing though.

It's considered a duel purpose muffler. The valve opens at 4900 rpms, but it is in the actual exhaust line around the rear axel area. When I release the spring it opens and closes with no effort. If you look in the FSM is describes the valve. It's purpose is to reduce restrictive pressure and ultimately give a better sound. It's electronically controlled.. I think I am going to try super glue or magnets.. idk, if you have time look in the FSM for 2005 Q.

My 2005 F50 is limited to 143mph I went up to 133mph and it started sounding like an airplane inside lol, with all the wind. But it was still pulling hard, which is impressive as many cars crawl to the top end..

Some M45 guys wired the valve open, some cut it out and replaced it with a pipe, yet others went the aftermarket electronic cutout way. Of course an old wire hanger is hard to beat in cost.

I have removed both resonators and left the rear muffler on my M45. It sounds pretty throaty, lets people know that you've got a V8, but I won't be scaring any hellcats with just that mod.
I had an 06 M45 and did the opposite, deleted the mufflers but kept the resonators. That one sounded pretty good as well, but counter-intuitively, seemed to drone a little more than the 03.
Look up M45 videos as well on youtube. Same engine, and might give you some exhaust ideas.
