I need a step by step how-to on parking brake shoe replacement. I looked at FSM and it's not too detailed.
If someone has done this and have pics, tips please post.

Parking brake shoe? I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with cars and especially the M (I do 99% of my own work/DIY) and I have no idea what this is. Any more info?

I would guess he was referring to the emergency brake. The M has a drum and shoe set up.

Did not realize that as I never worked on the e-brake. I thought we just had a cable going to the lever on the caliper similar to most cars.

It is a fairly conventional setup, like other shoe/drum brake assemblies.

You can get a brake hardware service kit. I got one but did not use any of the pieces because my springs, spring pins & adjusters looked OK.
Advance Auto parts Wearever Brake hardware Kit # 17400
If you google the above kit, it shows a photo of all the hardware in the kit, so you can get an idea of the pieces inside the assembly.

If you ever replace your rear rotors you will know, they used inside of the rotor as drum.

This is one of those jobs where a few things can be installed backwards, like the starwheel adjuster, springs & shoes, so carefully note the position of the parts for re-assembly. Check the shoes carefully, I believe they are secondary//primary sets if my memory recalls correctly.

Having done breaks on older cars, it is no different.
Total pain in the neck getting the adjustment right.

These e-brake shoes would be pretty much unchangeable if you didn't cut the drum or by new rear rotors.
The edge on the drum really gets in the way.
