Ummmm, yeah.

Spool means "to spin". Which really isn't a sound, but a motion.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

He probably just wants to hear his turbo, with i guess he can do by silencing the exhaust, getting a bigger turbo, getting a better intake system, or find a way to manually force air into your turbo. electric blow dryer? or you can try a turbo inlet pipe.

But as Greg said, this is not the best thing, because it really slows you down with more of a spool time on your turbo.also you can check for any leaks in your wastegate or blow off valve. this would tend to give you a longer spool time but not a louder sound.

I have some Suby friends who "removed their intake silencer" (??) and it made their cars spool a lot louder... I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to make my car's spool more pronounced and bad a$$ lol

How do people like this turbo and maintain their cars when they don't know simple stuff like this?

If you want to hear it spool louder get a exhaust cut out and run an open wastegate. Wont get much louder than that. It gets old quick thou.

It depends on whether he wants to hear the hot side or the cold side.

They both sound different.

different manufacturer turbos sound different - a t3/t4 should already be pretty loud, but if you have an off-brand (i.e. china turbo), those usually spool slower, which may sound quieter

getting a better tune & running a higher psi will also affect spool sound

running an open wastegate will make the wastegate dump sound more prominent, so you probably won't hear your turbo spool as much; running an exhaust cut out will just drown you in exhaust noise; I wouldn't recommend those if you want to just hear your turbo.

the whistles go woo-wooo!!!

get one of those whistler tips into your exhaust, it will add the 'spool' sound and you can hear it miles away.

cheersMarko

If you already have a Straight intake pipe and a cone filter, you can do the exhaust cutout.

But other than that anything else you will do to make more sound will hurt performance.

You could put some restrictions to the turbo inlet, (google image a blitz bov trumpet or HKS or greddy)

This will make more noise, but it will also make the turbo work harder.

You could put a wistle in your intake pipe. lol

Like sil240 says, anything to make extra sound will hurt performance. Just remember that to make sound it takes energy. Any extra energy utilized for this purpose is energy wasted (that doesn't mean that baffling takes care of redirecting this energy, that just muffles it). Just the same way that taking heat away from your exhaust gases hitting the turbine is a loss of energy (to a point before materials fail of course).

At first I thought you were talking about the little "clip-on" turbo-sound thing..but... that video just flat out pi$$ed me off.

"Used for decoration" how!? the F"n thing is INSIDE the dam tail pipe! They think everyone else is just 'stoopid' ..irks me. That's ridiculous, the sound is ghey, it's not even a performance sound, it's just ...ghey. <sigh> oh boy I can't wait for those thingys to hit the shops around here.. big tonka toy cars with "wooing" exhausts..

Anyways, srry OP for venting on your post, but hey! that's one more post count for your post! Alls I knows is you gotsa use dem hard medal pipes like steel and amulinum realtalk! Da noise be echoing and sh#% fa real off da pipes man.

that whistle video is so old and used, that's it's become a meme. Believe me, that thing probably never made it out of that city.
