how to make speakers work

hi, I'm trying to find out how to make my speakers work when I use my dvd player,I've done it once coz of luck, now I'm stuck..LOL...I have a stock player...

I can only access my rear DVD audio by using the steering wheel remote (pressing mode until it comes up). I haven't figured out any way of doing it through the radios controls.
